FlyTampa Dubai Rebooted PAPI and strobe lights

Featured Replies

Hello,

Does anyone know of a way to fix the problem with the red PAPI lights in FlyTampa's Dubai Rebooted? There is also a problem with the strobes that display as black squares. This is such an excellent scenery and it will be a pity to dump DX10, I can live with day time flying only but the red and black squares on approach are quite distracting.

ConvertX doesn't seem to help either as the texture sheet is the effects folder which doesn't seem to be in the list of folders pre-processed by ConvertX.

This was Martin's response when this was asked on the FlyTampa forum:

In the case of DX10, I am not sure how the Trilinear/Anisotripic setting within FSX itslelf and the NV/ATI anisotropic settings are handled and prioritized. I'm not sure it can be fixed in case of DX10, it just seems unreliable to me. I played around with some Texture Filtering settings here and ended up with this (screen shot in DX10 mode). The white PAPI lights are fine, the red one however is a box. That is pretty unreliable since both light colors are coming from the same texture sheet. Under no settings could I get it to become all red squares that never change (like you do).

Very unlikely I can fix DX10 issues.

I have to agree with Martin. Steve's fix did resolve some issues with DX10 but not all (yet). In the image it looks like only the Red Papi lights are the issue and not the white. You want to make sure this incompatibility is added to Paul's Airport Compatibility list if you haven't done so already. I think there's an fx file that controls those papi lights and sometimes developers modify those files and/or remove them if you uninstall one of their programs. The halo.bmp gets changed by many developers and can easily lead to problems in other programs (like FlyTampa's). FTX Central for instance has a 3D Light Tweaker that has several different versions of the halo.bmp but not sure if it replaces the default halo.bmp that FlyTampa uses. I suppose, if you had the default scenery selected instead of North America in FTX Central and started up FTX Central or FTX Aero and selected one of those lights, it would probably replace the default textures instead of the FTX scenery.

As you use DX10, remember it was not fully developed and coded in FSX/Acceleration so it will not be compatible until the FSX engine is upgraded. That will be impossible. Yet, we can thank Steve for fixing a lot of problems simmers had and I think he might find a few more before it all ends.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks Jim,

I replaced the halo.bmp with Michael Swannick's file as suggested in Paul's "How-To" but it appears that FlyTampa use their own file (flytampa_halo1.bmp) for the white strobes.

Strange that only the red PAPI lights are affected...

I understand that DX10 lights remain elusive and I agree that Steve deserves much credit for the problems that he's fixed!

In answer to the above, Steve is working on a more comprehensive way of managing non-compliant airports, (along with the existing patch), and has encountered some difficulty with some airports. At this moment I can tell you that in my testing - my FSX-DX9 version of FlyTampa's St. Maartens is fully working, using DX10 with the tiny issue with runway edge lights, relative to the proximity of the simmers' aircraft. There is no date for any release of this, as Steve is one man, and he's slowly fixing what some people believe to be an impossibility, and FSX needing a new graphics "engine".......

There ya go! Talking about me again! LOL! I hope Steve is successful. For me, I'm just happy there's no more flickering on airport runways and we can see the progressive taxi signs. Everything else is dessert....

Jim

I have gone back to DX9 only because I use Dubai for most of my overnight flights and the Flytampa Dubai rebooted ground textures do not work at night in DX10. Will Steve's fix help sort this issue out too?

No. See the OP. Ground textures seem to be okay but the papi lights do not work properly.

DX10

Any chance you guys will do a DX10 update?

No chance unfortunately. DX10 mode will not load night textures for Airport Ground Polygons and there is no way I can live without them. If you fly daytime only, DX10 works fine btw.

In my implementation of Flytampa , DX10, the Airport Ground polygons do not show up at night in OMDB Rebooted. that was the fix is inquired about..If Steve was addressing this as well.

Cheers,

Mars

Hi Paul,

My St Maarten airport itself IS working, even at night :) SABA is also working..

But St Barts isn't, ground textures not working at night.. Does TFFJ work for you at night?

Your dropbox link doesn't work, did it contain a preview of Steves new fixes? Are you able to link it again?

Many Thanks

Found it, and fixed it thanks!

Also confirm this fix works for KTPA Tampa Rebooted as well. In KTPA case though you only need to delete the PAPI files.

Cheers

DanW,

what did you do? Please share as I am experiencing the same issue.

Regards,

Mike

Doh I meant to reply to this thread: http://forum.avsim.n...of-big-squares/

The solution as shared by the OP over there was to delete some files, specifically they are:

KTPA:

All of *papi*.bgl from the scenery subfolder;

e.g. rwy10papi.bgl.

There should be 6 files.

OMDB:

All of *papi*.bgl from the scenery subfolder;

e.g. omdb_grd_31_rwy12Rpapi.bgl.

There should be 4 files.

The above fixes ONLY the PAPI big giant square.

In addition to this - the poster on the other thread also deleted the lights files, to get rid of the black strobe, but I wasn't sure which ones to delete and ran out of time, I don't want to delete all the lights.

If you have the issue with St Maarten having a big square on approach to the runway - this is fixed in FlyTampa site forum by installing the latest version, and then also the hotfix to replace a file.

I tested the other FT airports I own and posted in the airport thread too, VHHX works the best: http://forum.avsim.n...tible-airports/
