FS9 does not run on Win8 dev prev?

Featured Replies

Hi

just fired up FS9 on Windows 8 dev prev and it crashed the whole pc. I had to cut power!

Anyone has FS9 running on Win8?

Thanks

Hi ahso,

On my rig (Sabertooth P67 , i5 2500k, W8 Pro) FS9 installs perfectly and works without problem in windowed mode (run as administrator).

But it is unable to switch to full screen mode even with XP compatibility mode.

FPS currently 110/140 on KSEA unlimited.

Re ....

But I see on your profile that you are on Linux.

My experience is certainly not transferable to Wine emulation of Windows.

Sorry

Actually FS9 works ok in Wine but not on Win8. Probably I need to uncheck fullscreen and try again next time. Thanks

That made my day! A Microsoft product runs better under a Windows emulator than Windows itself. You just can't make that up!

Honestly, tried again after removing the FS9.cfg. All I get is a black screen, not even ctrl/alt/del works... again I had to pull the plug. Any ideas? I've simply copied the whole

folder from Vista, yea I know I'll have to reinstall later the addons.

Thanks

PS: Wine is not an emulator.

I think you would need to try a clean install.

It's unfair... :-)

As I said " FS9 runs perfectly on W8 Pro 64, in "windowed mode without any compatibilty mode" , in fact it runs better than on W7 Pro 64, faster and smoothier.

IE Wilco Airbus (no Evolution) and Wilco 777 don't give ntdll.dll errors when you shutdown FS9.

As in W7, weather radars from RX (in the same Wilco Evolution series) crash immediately FS9, but all my old planes works wonderfully.

And multi-windows are accepted without temporary slow-downs (apparently, memory gestion is better in W8)

But, as usual, YMMV :-)

YMMV? Well it might be faster as you've updated the drivers? For me Windows is only a virusbox. Only last week I had to repair Win8 with the CD as it refused to boot. Also I disabled metro. The dev prev was free. When I would need to buy that crap, I'll ditch it. Anyway I prefer it to the other patent troll OS as Gates does some good humanitarian things.

YMMV = Your Mileage May Vary

Hello

With regard to Windows 8, why do you guys put yourselves though all this agravation

Was Windows 7 not working for you ?

Worked without problems for me in fullscreen on Windows 8 32bit Consumer Preview. I used a fresh install without any add-ons though. Developer Preview is the oldest beta. I suggest trying the Release Preview, the latest Windows 8 Beta.
