November 21, 201213 yr Author Dear John Decker, The topic Pinned at the top of the forum is extremely difficult for a person not familiar with DOS! I did get to the correct dos window and tried to type in the correct commands for about an hour and then gave up I am angry and frustrated by the difficulty this program presents---JD--I have been a loyal customer of yours for years I have purchased the program countless time because it was easier to start over rather than try to deal with a tedious, aloof at times, support system. I think that you have an obligation to help the people who buy your software I am a retired Pilot and do not fly anymore but when I did, I very well knew the difference between a helpful Air Traffic Controller and a disinterested and unhelpful one. Please post a specific step by step post for fixing this 713 Msstdfmt.dll error issue with your software Yours Truly Dorn Cranert
November 22, 201213 yr Author To All,---Take notice of this post---Two days since my last letter of frustration and request for help---as I said--and this is the prop---indifferent technical help at best--now it seems that if you complain a little--and by the way this is my fisrt complaint in about ten years of using RC---no help at all!!!---cheers----Dorn
November 22, 201213 yr http://commandwindows.com/windows-8-commands.htm will help you open the command line so you can enter the various commands in that pinned thread. If that is your problem see if that helps. A search on yahoo turned up several references to this. Perhaps a Win 8 user can chime in here. There are not a lot of Win 8 users right now. Also, I know from reading some articles, you can get a standard classic Windows desktop in Win 8 Pro only if those articles are correct.
November 22, 201213 yr Dorn, If i reinstall windows 7, i too have to register the missing DLL (after downloading it) It does seem confusing and difficult, but i have done it each time. The instructions are pinned to this forum, maybe a computer savy friend could help. Good luck with this.
November 23, 201213 yr Author Hi Ronzie, First, some general information for all us flight Simmers—I think everybody is going to LOVE Win 8!!! I have been an avid simmer for over twenty years---I buy a new super computer every three or four years, and I have never had FSX run as well as it is currently running on my new copy of Win 8! Win 8 starts with the new window that we all see in the TV Adds but you can change to the old Win7 Desktop with a touch of the Keyboard or a simple mouse click on the open screen.---so my only problem at the moment is trying to get the RC up and running---it is installed but when I try to load a flight plan—half the plan loads and then I get the 713 error and I am told to get a copy of the msstdfmt.dll file and I do not know how to do this. I can get a DOS window open showing C:\WINDOWS\sywow64---but then when I try to follow J's instructions for typing into the DOS window I get confused---I need to see a specific example of what goes into the DOS window—I get all sorts of messages that the file can not be found--- etc
November 23, 201213 yr Try this from a post in that 713 topic by user Boeing 737 - 800 "What you wanna do is: Before anything, go to the site that ronzie posted and download the .dll and place it in your sys32 and syswow64 folders. 1. Press Start on the bottom left of your screen2. Type in cmd in the search bar, wait for it to pop up, right click it, and select run as admin.3. Now, type Cd \windows\syswow64 and press the enter key on your keyboard.4. Now, the prompt will change to C:\WINDOWS/syswow64>5. Now, RIGHT after the > with no spaces, type regsvr32 /u msstdfmt.dll and press the enter key on your keyboard. (IGNORE WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT ENTER MISSING NAME HERE).6. Now, after you've pressed enter, you'll get a little pop-up in a blue box saying that unregister was successful. Now you want to register it so you type regsvr32 msstdfmt.dll and press the enter key on your keyboard. (IGNORE WHAT IT SAYS ABOUT ENTER MISSING NAME HERE).7. Now, you should get a pop-up in a blue box saying that the register was successful. Enjoy!" That link is: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msstdfmt and to get the dll just click the download zip file button.
January 8, 201313 yr Hi John, Having tried for days to sort the msstdfmt.dll problem out I have found the explanation above easier to follow than the pinned instructions at the top of the forum. Following them I finally got RC4 to work for both my FS9 and FSX on my Win 7 laptop. Perhaps the instructions could be pinned also regards, Ian
