That's good news! Whilst we are on the subject, I wish they or Aerosoft, or someone would do Ronaldsway, Isle of Man. It's a much bigger island than any of the Channel Islands and has routes to England, Scotland, Wales, Dublin, Cork, Belfast. Despite the weather it's a popular destination for GA pilots.

 

For those who aren't familiar, the IOM lies in the Irish Sea approx 25 nm east of Ireland, and 15 nm south of the nearest point in Scotland. it is around 30 miles long and 10 wide at widest point. Like the Channel Islands it is a tax haven but unlike them it gets miserable weather - which makes it more interesting for us. It is a Crown Dependency, not part of UK, not in EU or EAA; it has its own parliament but foreign affairs and defence are the responsibility of UK government. Confused? Me too. ^_^

 

As before, Earth Simulations are also in development with IOM...

I've been looking into whether it would be possible to do a freeware Jersey...

 

One of the problems is that in order to do a high quality scenery you need very detailed and accurate elevation data, known as a DEM, to create your scenery.

If you take a look at the following image, you can see that there is no high resolution DEM available for the Channel Islands.

 

Other than to create one by hand (which would take years and require many many on site observations), one of the only ways of getting this data is to go through a satellite tasking company, to get the data you need. And yes, I have enquired, it will cost you about $10,000 to task a satellite to get the data for Jersey island!!

I actually started work on jersey a while back. I made good progress, I sourced terrain, modelled the main terminal buildings, flight club, airfield features, gates a couple of other hangars and some autogen. I managed to modify the afcad files to ensure the taxiways were positioned correctly etc.

 

I then Got bored and halted production and then I even went and deleted my files by mistake. However today I managed to find an older version of my progress, although textures are missing the main buildings are present.

 

If anyone wants the files they are more than welcome to them, i can email you a link an you can have the lot.

How hard is Guernsey on FPS? Will it handle the NGX? What sort of FPS do you get with the NGX there.

Also how does it work with Orbx ENG? any comparability problems?

Hi Dave, sure, I've flown into Guernsey with the NGX with FTX central set to Europe. No apparent problems, however there is an issue, believe it or not, around the KSEA area! If I remember rightly I had to remove a file from the scenery folder in Earth Simulations. It was for the boats around Guernsey. Shame, but I can live without them. Apart from that... hmm, there was another issue, but that was easily rectified by following a procedure on the ES website/forum. Don't let me put you off Dave, the scenery is stunning, I think it's either 0.5 mtr per pixel or 30 cm per pixel resolution!! It's a real work of art. As for frames, mmm, it's no heavier than some other high detailed airports and better than many of the silly Aerosoft sceneries! I'd go for it Dave, it makes a nice addition to my scenery collection. BTW, happy New Year!!

I don't have any other Orbx installed apart from ENG ATM so KSEA is not a problem, might need to look up your other problem more or do you have any more info at that Howard?
