November 22, 201213 yr Guys been around fsx since the start. Havnt posted here before as i tend to find the search finds any answer i need, However i quite suprised that not one developer hasnt made Jersey airport fot fsx. I know there is a freeware one, but im more of a payware person myself. Im sure there would be a market for it as there alot of A airlines in the uk that fly here. If anyone has news/pics of somebody making it id be intreasted to know thanks!! Danny
November 22, 201213 yr It was on the 'future airports' list on the UK2000 page but seems to have disappeared since. It's a shame as it's a perfect airport for an hour of simming, being only a short hop from all the airports on the South Coast so a busy sector ending in a very challenging short runway to arrive into at 1700m. In fact, I think it's probably the shortest in the UK handling stuff like 737s and A320s. 757s and iirc BA 767s and Tristars have all been in there in the past. When I flew BA's full motion 737-400 sim at LHR I asked the instructor if we could have a few approaches into Jersey, the last one of which she obligingly gave me in moderate turbulence and poor viz. Needless to say the touchdown was 'firm' but I was quite chuffed when she told me that it was 'a darn sight better than most Jersey landings she'd seen'! Let's hope someone does it, I'd buy it in a flash.
November 22, 201213 yr Nope, Jersey in the Channel Islands which is between the UK mainland and France. Small island populated by rich tax exiles and was the only part of the British isles to be occupied by the Jerries in the war. It's a bit like England but near to France, so the weather is a bit better and they have nice cheeses. Or something like that....
November 22, 201213 yr Would be a nice destination.. in a Avro RJ for example.. lol. Its a small island, so it could be not only the airport but the whole island.. Aerosoft, UK2000, step on it!
November 22, 201213 yr I have just got my hands on Guernsey by Earth Simulations and I can thoroughly recommend it. BTW, the waves crashing on the rocks is a nice touch... November 22, 201213 yr Sure, it's not the lightest of sceneries... but pretty impressive all the same... November 22, 201213 yr Now I know what "J" Jersey, "G" Guernsey we are talking about. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3
November 22, 201213 yr The only problem with the Earth Simulations stuff is that they take their time to finish projects. And this can last very long. Other than that, their isles are beautiful. So I double Howard's tip for folks looking for a nice Channel Isles spot. I'd also add the well known Alderney and Scilly Isles from the same dev. Great stuff for the BN2 of mine. :Big Grin: I think they have Jersey on their planning sheet over at ES.

Hey CoolP, I have my eyes on the Scilly Isles for exactly the same reason as you, some great short hops in the Islander... November 22, 201213 yr And right you are, that combo makes perfect sense. The details on that small bit of landmass are just amazing. I think Ray wrote a review about it. Pretty much a sure shot if one is onto those small hops over a few nm of water.
December 29, 201213 yr I've been looking into whether it would be possible to do a freeware Jersey... One of the problems is that in order to do a high quality scenery you need very detailed and accurate elevation data, known as a DEM, to create your scenery. If you take a look at the following image, you can see that there is no high resolution DEM available for the Channel Islands. Other than to create one by hand (which would take years and require many many on site observations), one of the only ways of getting this data is to go through a satellite tasking company, to get the data you need. And yes, I have enquired, it will cost you about $10,000 to task a satellite to get the data for Jersey island!! If anyone wants to club together with me to meet the cost, just PM me  Kevin Firth - AMD 9800X3D; Asus Prime X670E; 64Gb Cas30 6000 DDR5; RTX5090; AutoFPS
December 29, 201213 yr I now understand that Jersey is under development by Earth Simulations... December 29, 201213 yr I now understand that Jersey is under development by Earth Simulations... That's good news! Whilst we are on the subject, I wish they or Aerosoft, or someone would do Ronaldsway, Isle of Man. It's a much bigger island than any of the Channel Islands and has routes to England, Scotland, Wales, Dublin, Cork, Belfast. Despite the weather it's a popular destination for GA pilots. For those who aren't familiar, the IOM lies in the Irish Sea approx 25 nm east of Ireland, and 15 nm south of the nearest point in Scotland. it is around 30 miles long and 10 wide at widest point. Like the Channel Islands it is a tax haven but unlike them it gets miserable weather - which makes it more interesting for us. It is a Crown Dependency, not part of UK, not in EU or EAA; it has its own parliament but foreign affairs and defence are the responsibility of UK government. Confused? Me too. ^_^ John
