December 6, 201213 yr To play it safe it's best first not to have FS on the same drive as your OS and second not to install it in either W7 'Program Files' folder. During my first go around with migration I had to uninstall FS9 and re-install it after a conflict arose with a few add-ons. It's been so long I don't remember which ones. Again play it safe to be sure. I have never, ever installed MSFS or any addon anywhere except in the Program Files folder structure and that goes for WIndows 7 and FS9 as well. That way I keep everything tidy. It's just a matter of making sure that you have full permission set to the FS9 folder, sub-folders and files. I have never had any problems or conflicts doing this. However, if you are not sure about permissions - which are fully described in the Windows 7 help area - then it's probably better to install everything outside of Program Files. Some posts I have read on the Internet about this would scare the pants off of anyone of a nervous disposition, leaving them to believe that installing anything in Program Files would invite armageddon to strike their PC! February 1, 201313 yr Longtime FS (and FSX) user here. Just migrated over to Windows 8 a couple months ago and finally got around to reinstalling FSX a few days ago. As a rule, i do not install FSX in the 86 Programs folder, i create a folder all its own outside of that. I dont know if it matters much, but it is just my practice, been doing it that way for a long time now. A couple of interesting things i have noticed so far with fsx is the suddenly dead joystick issue, which is an easy fix, just Hit ALT+enter a couple times and it magically comes back to life, something to do with usb power saving, and this is after i went into device manager and told the usb's NOT to use power saving. The other thing is much more a surprise. Now my past experience with FSX on win 7 was that i was OBSESSED with microstutters and constant stutters while turning in the sim. The DX10 "fixes" over the last months helped a whole lot in that area. But when i got the sim installed and all the addons installed, i noticed DX9 running at a higher fps and smoother than DX10 preview mode. Hardly any stutters at all in DX9 and all is well. The only time it hiccups a little bit is when OPUS throws new weather in. I remember in Win7 when you started FSX, aero would shut off. In windows 8 there is no "aero" and fsx starts up like any other program and without some little bubble popping up telling you it needed to go to some compatibility mode. Makes me wonder if this is making a difference Computer Specs: i5-4690K 3.5 GHz overclocked to 4.0GHz / MSI GTX 960 4GB Video Card / 16GB Kingston HyperX Fury 1866MHz DDR3 System RAM / MSI Z97-G45 Motherboard / Crucial MX200 500GB mSATA SSD
