Today we hunt another crashed plane. Wonder if this one looks like the others?

Enjoy.

Thank you.

The Location of Kramer 31 is correct.

But the airport Jack Fish Landing (7AK4) is wrong.

In reality the airport is 155° and 7.9nm away...

What the heck did they do placing this airport in this position?

Ok it`s interesting to look at and fly in (you will notice that this couldn`t be the real place for an airport), but it`s not correct.. :P

And yes, it is the same. All static objects are the same.

Hi,

There are additional problems with this airport. I have the Facilities Runway Camera enabled but this airport is never pointed to. I haven't checked it out but perhaps the correct airport location is pointed to when cycling the cameras.

I didn't have any trouble finding the cache but Kramer 31 is actually a modified B-29. Not Flight's representation of a DC-3.

Not such a great couple of pics.

Actually I think the most fun I had with this cache was landing back at Jack Fish.

Thank you.

Right, Jack Fish is a cool strip. Even if it is in the wrong location.

This got me to 200 AotD!!! So I've missed a few...

Then just for fun I looked at the job board. Seems most everything is longer than I want to fly, but there was one to another airport 40+ miles away. 600lbs of live bacon! Went and dumped a lot of fuel out of the Maule and started the mission. I lined up a little back of the mission runway marker, figuring I would trigger it on the TO. Forgot about the ride-along that comes with the jobs and as he starts mentioning about checklist, I firewall the throttle. Takeoff with a heavy load out of the sunken airport was... fun. And Bozo was mentioning about making notes about my ethics and flying skills. He should have been watching for the trees. But I got out and finished the job.

Still sitting at less that 900k XP points or whatever they are called. Sometime next year I'll reach the one million mark!

I placed the Stearman on the runway at Jack Fish Landing and read the lat/long: 61.672 -149.509. I typed this into Google Maps, and it pointed to the area where Flight has the airport, and, what do you know, just to the east of this location, in the middle of the forest or whatever, Google Maps has a marker for Jack Fish Landing Airport. (The real location, in Wasilla, is also marked.) So the bogus coordinates used by Flight also made their way, from somewhere, onto Google Maps.

FAA data for airports is reported by the owners or operators themselves. The FAA does not have inspectors on location checking these coordinates or the rest of the Airport Facilities Data. There are, as a consequence, a lot of mistakes, and a lot of approximations..

Obviously, the guys at MGS have even less resources for checking on this data than the FAA so all these errors, mistakes, approximations inevitably wind up in the game.

Best regards.

Luis
