Graphics problem: flashing "thunderbolts"

Featured Replies

Hi folks, not sure whether this should be in the hardware section, but seems to be FS9 specific. I recently threw out my old classic CRT monitor and replaced it by a flat screen (HP L2105tm). Ever since, I am getting trapezoid shaped "thunderbolds" flashing across my FS screen as can be seen in the pictures below. They just come up for the fraction of a second, but constantly. Graphics card is a Radeon X1950.

Any idea what is going on?

Best,

Holger

G'day EPICfan.

Now I don't have the solution to your problem however I would check whether you have selected 16bit colour rather than 32bit in the FS9 settings. Also ensure your Radeon's fan is doing its job properly. Overheating can sometimes cause this issue.

Best of luck.

It does look like an overheating video card. Or a card that might be failing.

Good luck.

Thanks - overheating might indeed be an issue. I got the new monitor because I installed a second video card. I will revert to the original configuration and check again. Although both cards have massive fans.

Best,

Holger

Postscript: I am having this issue only with FS. Not even with my video editing software that uses far more ressources. Any other program I could fire up to see if it is having a similar issue?

This couldn't be anything to do with the resolution your running your new monitor with perhaps.

I know that you are supposed to run the sim with same resolution as you use for general PC use as well. ( I don't know why).

Perhaps you could try the resolution that you used with your old CRT.

Must be an old version of the freeware by Georg Aubele and Hans-Werner Mertens (available on Flightsim.com). I should update it, there is newer freeware. City of Frankfurt is from one of the VFR sceneries by Aerosoft.

The ENB series mod will cause this problem.
