December 19, 201213 yr Hi folks, even with the OPUS weather engine it happens by and then, that an erratic wind shift kicks out the FMS speed setting. I am just cruising nicely at FL390 with Mach .828 in VNAV on the A576 on my way from EHAM to WADD (T/D in about 30 minutes) and again, bang, - the FMS speed is still shown as a little magenta circle, also - the the FCP setting shows still 'mach.827' in the little window above the speed knob (instead of the three dashes), but - the speed tab shows a solid triangle with .743 next to it! Autothrottle will decelerate the aircraft happily near this stall speed. Why is it like that? I know that overspeed is dangerous to aircraft, since at certain parts (eg. wing edges etc) Mach 1 might be reached and damages might occur, but an automatic reduction to close stall speed does not seem the right answer to me. Also I cannot find the speed setting of .743 anywhere in the FMC. 8^( Andreas BergPMDG 737NGX -- PMDG J41 -- PMDG 77L/77F/77W -- PMDG B744 -- i7 8700K PC1151 12MB 3.7GHz -- Corsair Cooling H100X -- DDR4 16GB TridentZ -- MSI Z370 Tomahawk -- MSI RTX2080 DUKE 8G OC -- SSD 500GB M.2 -- Thermaltake 550W --

December 19, 201213 yr Author Gotcha! I don't think that I get my wife pushing the FMS SPD button when I am away... 8^) Andreas BergPMDG 737NGX -- PMDG J41 -- PMDG 77L/77F/77W -- PMDG B744 -- i7 8700K PC1151 12MB 3.7GHz -- Corsair Cooling H100X -- DDR4 16GB TridentZ -- MSI Z370 Tomahawk -- MSI RTX2080 DUKE 8G OC -- SSD 500GB M.2 -- Thermaltake 550W --
December 19, 201213 yr Well maybe she will do if you attach a photo of a pair of shoes to the screen with an arrow pointing on the FMS SPD Button and label it with: "Push to order!" ;-) I think the logic behind the problem is that if you overspeed the High Speed Protection kicks in which will move the throttles to idle clamp to prevent overspeeding. However, now the plane will deccelerate and at some point the Low Speed Protection should kick in to prevent the aircraft from stalling. To my understanding this will now result in the aircraft flying a little bit faster than Vmin. The problem is that in the real world you probably won't have many so rapid windshifts as in FSX, and so overspeeding during FMS Speed may indicate a fault of the FMS System and so the aircraft won't follow the commands of the FMS Speed automatically after the deceleration out of the overspeed situation anymore. December 21, 201213 yr Which version of OPUS do you use ? This occurs when the weather is updating, if there is a shift in the winds, or temperature, or pressure. In this case, the MD11 gets out of the profile mode, the speed reverts to MCP Speed an altitude to Altitude Hold. You need to push Profile button to get back to profile mode. Have a look in the sub-forum for Opus FSX. This issue has been discussed by me and other users. Since the latest beta version, I rarely have this event anymore. Location : FMEE
December 21, 201213 yr Author Currently I use 2,71.0. In Weather Options/Wind Options a ticked Enable Wind Stabilisation. Is that wrong? (Default: Not ticked... ) Now I am on my way from WADD (Bali, Denpasar) to EHAM/AMS. Just passing WSSS/SIN and bang... 'OVERSPEED... OVERSPEED...'. Despite OPUS I get these massive wind changes. :Black Eye: Andreas BergPMDG 737NGX -- PMDG J41 -- PMDG 77L/77F/77W -- PMDG B744 -- i7 8700K PC1151 12MB 3.7GHz -- Corsair Cooling H100X -- DDR4 16GB TridentZ -- MSI Z370 Tomahawk -- MSI RTX2080 DUKE 8G OC -- SSD 500GB M.2 -- Thermaltake 550W --
December 21, 201213 yr Author Add-on: Often it is an altitude alert. I assume that the QNH at that location changes so that the aircraft is for QNH1013hPa more than 300' away from its cruising altitude. Then I get the 'ALTITUDE... ALTITUDE...' warning, and also then the FMS Speed is overruled... December 21, 201213 yr I also use FSUIPC options for wind and pressure smoothing. I am using wind stabilization in Opus, and also friendly grib datas. Location : FMEE
December 21, 201213 yr I have just had the MD-11 for a few weeks and I use it in FS9. Been some fairly big winds i have flown through recently and not had the problem you decribe as FSUIPC wind smoothing does its job. I dont use Opus so cant comment i am afraid. Peter Schluter
December 21, 201213 yr Commercial Member FSUIPC wind smoothing. Done and done. Even add-on weather programs don't get it perfectly (especially if you don't configure them properly). You can't expect a realistic aircraft to behave realistically if you don't put it into a realistic condition. Kyle Rodgers
December 22, 201213 yr Author Hi Kyle, I don't know FSUIC in detail. If I open it from within the FSX simulation I get a window which is not really illusive... Version 4.827 265th April 2012, unregistered copy. Then some buttons - Normal defaults - Clear All Weather - Weather settings off And some tick box options - FSUIPC multiline display window - Suppress multiline in FS's window - Hide all single line messages The second tab is on Log Details (one is Weather), and Specific value checks. What do I have to do in order to take advantage of whatever FSUIPC does on the FSX weather? Thank you. December 22, 201213 yr to enable all the functions of FSUIPC you need to buy a key. Simmarket sell them. Well worth it in my opinion. Peter Schluter
December 22, 201213 yr Andreas I would never attempt to use the MD-11 with OpusFSX unless I was setting in front of the monitor ready to respond to anything that might happen because of the weather. I am currently using 2.71.3 which is a Beta release which has significant improvements over the 2.71 version you are using. I tried FSUIPC using wind and pressure smoothing with OpusFSX when the vesions were in the 2.2's and 2.3's and it made no difference at all. Chances were a 100% that if I was not at the computer when the wind shift happened, the MD-11 would be a the gate ready to go again. I use OpusFSX for the NGX and MD-11 (up to a 5hr flight) but for right now with MD-11 if it is a mission critical flight of 8-13 hrs I use AS2012. Who has the time to look at the weather except at cruise anyway. From FL350 the clouds could be snow on the ground right now. Michael Cubine Michael Cubine
