December 21, 201213 yr Once AUTOFLIGHT is pressed, the autothrottle is activated and the speed cannot be controlled by my Saitek throttle. How can I desactivate AUTOFLIGHT and manually control the speed ? Hubert Werni Herbert Werni
December 21, 201213 yr In the key bindings, you can map a key to the autopilot disconnect. Or you can click the button on the yoke. If you use FSUIPC to map the joystick buttons, you can map to this script: ipc.control(66587, 71002) ipc.control(66587, 71003) You may need to press it twice. For the throttle, there should also be a key for that in the bindings too I think, or the button on the throttles side you can click. For FSUIPC this is the script to map to your throttle button: ipc.control(66587,73152)
December 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member You don;t need FSUIPC - the default jey in FS is Shift+R for AT disonnect, and Z for AP disconnect, Both require TWO presses - the first disengages the function, the second cancels the alert. In PMDG Key Options you can assign other keys, but check they don't confict with FS. I use Z for AP and X for AT disconnect, respectively. Works great. Best regards, Robin.
December 27, 201213 yr Hi all, The MD11 autoflight controls are cancelled by clicking the button on the Yoke, this however only cancels the lateral settings, the Autothrottle can only be disengaged by pressing the button on the Throttle for engine number 1. This is because the MD11 is designed to be flown throughout it's flight with Autothrottle engaged!. Manual throttle inputs are not expected during normal flight, as far as I understand it. Oh and don't use the disconnect button under the autoflight one, like in a 737 as that disconnects other stuff you wouldn't want to disconnect!!!! Hope this helps. Happy flying, Happy Flying, Dave Phillips.

Many crews disengage the AT for landing and approach and fly it manually as you do in a 737 or many other aircrafts. The AT isn't a real requirement to fly the aircraft. A human can do that too John John Rubens

A human can do that too John Hi John, I think in the PMDG manual for the MD11 it says somewhere that the MD11 is designed to fly from takeoff to landing with the autothrottle engaged all the time.....................I understand what your saying John but wouldn't the pitch protection system not work if the autothrottle wasn't engaged? Also what about the speed protection system on the flaps, surely you need the autothrottle to slow the aircraft down only when the correct flap setting is selected as it shouldn't slow down until then! Only my observations, I have tried flying it with manual throttles, and I'm sure it's something real crews are able to do but that's how I understand things are supposed to work. Happy flying, Happy Flying, Dave Phillips.
December 27, 201213 yr Hi Dave, Also the B737 Autothrottle can be used from takeoff to landing, however it is still not requiered. Pitch-, over-, and underspeedprotection work regardless if the Autothrottle is on or off. If it is of and the aircraft get's to slow the autothrottle motors will move the thrust levers forward and in a high speed conditon aftwards. I don't get the point with the flaps, sorry! As it is done: First slow down than extend flaps. Not extend flaps, let the flap protection system keep them retracted and then slow down. Best regards, Jonathan John Rubens

The default keys never worked for me, I think by default they are more of a Toggle. If I hit Z the second time, instead of silencing the warnings it will turn autopilot back on. Same with autothrottle, if I hit Shift+R it turns the AT off but the warning is there, when I push it a second time it just turns AT back on. I am however flying the NGX not the MD-11 today.. so maybe it's slightly different in MD-11, but in general I never trusted the default autopilot keys with complex addons. The PMDG key mapping settings seems good though.
December 31, 201213 yr You need to click on the PMDG settings while in the cockpit and assign a key for it. I have mine set for Z Autopilot and X for Autothrottle disconnect. It works flawlessly.. Happy New Year. :-) George T
