FS9 vs FSX ?

Featured Replies

Some women are harder on frames than others, it depends on the modeling.................wait what are we talking about here?

We're talking about FS9 vs FSX.

Agreed, some models are very heavy on FPS but I guess you get what you pay for. Good models cost you a arm and a leg, but with modeling are good handling characteristics. The model may look nice, but how she behaves is what counts. FDE's in FS9 and FSX for the most part are great. Looking back on FS5 and FS98, models sure have come a long way. More rounded and not as square.

Seems like there is a greater variety, too. And today we can get 3000 page manuals telling how they work. Can you imagine having such a thing when you first started out?

Agreed. Even after reading that 3000 page manual, you still don't understand it. Some of the models are very complex and you really have to dig deep into the firmware, to fully understand how they work. I remember back when the airbus first came out, if you were brave enough to step into an automated cockpit, you'd often hear pilots saying "now what is it doing". Makes me wonder if the old wired models were more reliable and friendly then these fly by wire types.

I like flying the older models myself. Eventually you get to understand them, and there's less chance of pushing the wrong button and end up crashing and burning.

But even older models can have considerable systems depth. It can take a lot of both skill and luck to get one started from a cold and dark state. At least the manual will tell you that the actions you took when shutting it down last time can have a lot of effect on your ability to get it started again on the next flight. I mean... who knew??
