FS9 vs FSX ?

Featured Replies

Hi.

Wow. Ok. I never once experience FSX with stuttering, and my graphics are better with FSX. FS9 should be forgotten. And, tell me, it is old.

Ahh Scarlett... what's wrong with being old? Consider Phlebas:

...you've changed your avatar - I liked the old one better

I like them both! (Sorry Momtchil, my multiquote button doesn't work).

I don't think it is entirely fair to label her a "troll" for expressing an opinion about fs9 vs fsx in a thread entitled "fs9 vs fsx" whether that thread happens to be posted in an fs9 forum or an fsx one. As for the person above who called for a ban, I think that is way over the top and completely out of line

Agreed. It's positively (?) unfair. This is a forum: a meeting or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged. No one has been abusive; we are all offering opinions and exchanging views, and given the thread's title surely votes of support for either sim are welcome. Keep them coming.

Best regards,

D

For what it's worth I run both Sims side by side on same machine and enjoy them equally. Low & slow in FSX, with Orbx and similar. Higher and faster in FS9 with worldwide Photo scenery.

Perhaps one day switch FSX for P3D....maybe.

Still retain FS9 also and enjoy 200+ fps.

Arnie....if it ain't broke, don't fix it...

I find it interesting that with your views being what they are, you seem to spend alot of time here in the FS9 forum. If it is the dying, old washed up sim you claim, why not just forget it and move on. FS9 is very much alive and well on my machine thank you very much, and I am quite content with it. For those that are happy with FSX (like yourself) more power to you. Have never understood where the competition between the two comes from. Maybe one upmanship. Just get tired of coming into this forum to keep up on FS9 goings on and seeing this stuff continue ad nauseum

I really spend the least of my time here, actually. But yes, you have fun with your FS9! I am happy you are so content with it. Happy Flying.

Where is the moderation? .... just ban the troll .....simples.

So if we ban everyone based on your view of a 'troll', than we would probably have a community of only fs9 users. Happy-go-lucky ones that live in the past and never argue or stand up for what they think! Ya, that's a great idea.

If you really think of my comment of being a 'troll' than you really need to go and get out somewhere. But I don't want to say anything further! Done arguing.

Q: Is FS9 Dead?

A:NO, far from it.

Q: Are its numbers getting smaller?

A: Quite likely, however they still have a big community.

Q: Why use an "inferior" engine in FS9 when FSX has got better visuals?

A: FS9 gets much better frame-rates and with the right addons can look better than FSX at default.

Q: If FS9 gets better frames than FSX and can look better than FSX in default, whats the deal with FSX?

A: FSX while poorly optimized, can be tweaked for better performance and todays hardware is going to run FSX pretty well, FSX can also be pushed much farther in terms of visuals.

Q: What do you mean FSX can be pushed farther than FS9?

A: FS9's engine has been pushed as far as it can go with all the current 3rd party software that is available, FSX however is just starting to come into its prime, in short FS9's engine is maxed out.

Q: This is a simulator, sure visuals are important, but what about flight dynamics?

A: Both FS9 and FSX are both excellent simulators, both are actually very similar when it comes to game physics, aircraft however are completely dependent upon who developed the model & FDE for it.

Q: So which is better, FS9 or FSX?

A: Both are great, FS9 has better performance but its 3rd party support is dwindling and its engine is maxed out, while FSX offers more down the road but will require a much more powerful system to run smoothly, in a short answer, neither are technically better, its all up to the user to determine which is better to currently suit their simming needs with their budget.

Fs9 is DYING. Developers are moving on! It's only a matter of time before they are all FSX. The time and effort it takes to make an addon for FS9 is so much more than FSX it's no wonder why developers switch to FSX.

Why use an 'inferior engine'? First, the better addons are for FSX. And 2ND, my frames in FSX are much much better than they ever were in FS9 with my new computer. Period. And you say can it can look better than 'FSX DEFAULT'. Well, from my understanding, FSX default is pretty crappy, so wow, if I buy tons of addons, my FS9 will just look like crap? Hmm.

But all your other statements I agree with!

Summer1, I do not disagree with you hat FS9 is dying, it however is not dead and still has quite a following, now from a 3rd party developer perspective, it is effectively dead. Carenado is one of the last few payware developers to still release high quality addons for FS9, where as yes most 3rd party developers are on to FSX/P3D now. My foresight is that FS9 still has maybe 2 years left in it before its done, and even then lots of 3rd party stuff will be ported to FSX, FS9 will TECHNICALLY never die simply because it will be carried over to FSX, FS9 is nothing short of an impressive success story, FSX can attain this as well as long as it gets the proper attention and it likely will at this point.

Actually for that part of it, it's the opposite. It's easier for a developer to ,make an addon for FS9 then FSX, that's why you still see more freeware for FS9 then you do FSX, The problem is when the demand for FS9 was greater, developers used to produce FS9 versions first, then in some cases just port it to FSX, not taking advantage of all of FSX greater features, Or a full native rebuild which took quite a bit of time. Sometimes 2 to 3 years. Now though demand is reversed, so they would build a native model/scenery first now to get the most cash flow, but now they would have to remove features like bump mapping etc.. to make a FS9 compatible product. This is more difficult, and the reduced demand vs the amount of work they would have to put into it, makes it increasingly less economically enticing to them.

Thanks

Fs9 is DYING.

I checked only this afternoon! It was still functioning and very much alive and kicking on my computer.

You'd better check in the avsim library there's plenty of new stuff for fs9 and more coming!!!!

How many a/c in FSX are fully functioning? With each and every cockpit gauge and switch properly modelled. Corrected engine tables etc etc etc. How many FSX a/c require full checklists?

FSX is all about scenery and plastic looking aeroplanes and having to spend a lot of money to get a PC that might run it smoothly.

I think you are just trying to stir up the pot, so I shouldn't respond. But while you're having fun with your 512 textures, non-bump mapped fs9 freeware, FSX people are flying the latest planes by PMDG, FSL, or Real Air with depth that FS9 never dreamed of, and they are running it well. Really, I don't mean that to knock FS9 for what it is or was, because it fit the needs of its time and for some still does, I just think this kind of comment is either deliberatly provocative or else just very misinformed as to what people are able to get out of FSX these days. FSX has its problems and can be a real p.i.t.a. to be sure, but lack of depth or poor graphics is generally not among them when running the good payware airplanes on a reasonably modern system.

DYING

Like the end of the world on December 21st, 2012 I can confirm that FS9 has not died, nor FSX or FS98 for that matter. People that claim we're dying, surely realize, we all know that we're all dying and will die. Please stop with "I'm old and I'm dying".... I think I understood that concept at the age of 5. I will continue to use this aging body until I upgrade or die. And I wanna upgrade...

Trolls

I think we've all been duped.

The OP joined on 21-December 12 and makes his first post "FS9 vs FSX?"

Welcome "OP" to Avsim and to answer your questions...

Q1 - yes

Q2 - FPS/detail/developers/OOM's/FSX Fan boys/FS9 Fan boys/dying

FSX is an eldery person in a retirement home and fs9 is dead but still moving like a zombie :)

If you took the meaning of 'dying' to be literally dead, than you are the definition of ignorant.

Looks like im like 200 to 1 here, so I am going to leave before the old and dried out FS9 users like explode or something.

Now you're sounding like a troll!

We're not gong to let either FSX or FS9 users (or anyone else) get insulted here, so lets just all give that one a rest please. If you have nothing constructive to post on the topic - refrain from posting. This silly thread is finally verging on a well deserved locked status.

Ok - I've tried to warn you nicely twice now. This is the last time.

Your actions in this thread have been really close to troll like. Whenever things start to come down a little - you come back with a big old meaningless flaming comment to stir things up again. This is not the first thread I've seen you do that in either!
