FS9 vs FSX ?

Featured Replies

What a great typo!

So let's make something useful of this poopy thread...

For some reason I missed the releases of the Air Simmer Airbus; I went to the website and noticed talk of an A319.

I'd love to have a good one of these in the hangar, anyone have experience of the model (and especially of the sales/support side)?

it's sold through FLIGHT1 with a 30day money back policy

Hey, that's no typo!

:LMAO:

Just me playing with words..............

...but you would say that...

That sounds better than the Ariane experience, then.

The Russian capitalist model was a little rough for my taste. they assumed I was a criminal wanting to steal everything.

Anyone have the A319? I must say the model looks pretty good.

If I weren't downloading the Carenado Baron as we speak, I'd be over there with credit card already.

the AirSimmer is the best payware addon for fs9 with textures matching fsx, it even looks better than the ifly and pmdg md11 for fs9 plus the whole plane is modeled in 3D: VC and Cabin, trust me you won't use the return policy, ver1.4 of the plane is awesome!

Here we go again. How many of these types of threads have we had over the years now? If its not FS9 v FSX its X-plane v FSX or MS Flight or etc.......

Oh, come on. A dead horse won't feel the whip so no harm in beating it some more. ;-)

Thank you, don't know how I missed this, I must have been distracted with something quite big at the time!

Hah - just purchased my backup FS9 disks for $13.00 @ Amazon... What's FSX ?

:)

Not true. Nothing is better in FS9, not even performance. Not anymore.

It's old, superseded and should just be forgotten.

 Good luck in your next flight on your super-optimized-AI-less FSX. I don't know, maybe try to land with the NGX on brand new CYVR, really hope that you don't need to downgrade to regular textures to avoid OOMs.

FSX is just great, and just by reading your post made me realize how dumb we all are. Thanks for your enlightment.

The fact that the FSX fan-boys cannot keep out of the FS9 forums speaks volumes.

I would like to see the mods putting a ban on the likes of Mr Pinto etc from using the FS9 forums.

I really don't understand the logic, each simmer is entitled to use the sim they prefer. What is the point of offending other users just because they use another sim?

I do like FSX because at 1-3000 feet in a small airplane, like I do in real life, it looks much better than FS9 especially in ORBX country and I have good performance. IT is also very immersive with all the stuff going on on the ground with people walking around doing their stuff.

BUT I fly mostly on VATSIM in airliners or bigger props and at FL150 and above good looking ground textures is nice to have, but not important. Instead I appreciate a stable sim that I can thrust will still be running a few hours later when I land. And eg KORD from FSDT looks basically the same in FS9 as in FSX, but I have 40-50 higher FPS in FS9 and the smoothness that brings is very important to me. I do miss the so far greatest airplane add-on for MSFS, PMDG 737NGX, but I still have extra-ordinary planes like LevelD, PMDG MD11 and 747, Maddog, Aeroworx Kingair 200, DF727 and many more that are more than enough to keepnme busy and happy.

The iFly 737 for Fs9 may not be quite on par with the PMDG737NGX, but it's still extemely impressive. Then I have Activesky Enhanced, REX, GE Pro and others that pushes FS9 close to FSX. Not to mention SB4 that actually works in the sim...

Would I prefer to use FSX and throw out FS9? Probably, but it's just too much fuzz to get it working and It's just a reboot away from behaving nicely to getting gremlings into the sim. I have lots of add-ons for both sims so that is not the issue. And I ALWAYS fly in VC with FS9 :) I simply rather sit in a 3 hour session with the iFly 737 with slightly less systems depth but with high fps, than in the superior PMDG 737NGX in a sim with 15-16 fps that can stop working anytime.

And I DON'T have an old computer. It's not superquick but still an i7 2500K@4,5 GHz, 6 GB RAM and a Asus 660 Ti videocard running Win 7 64 with only flighsim stuff installed. I am actually fed up with FSX fan boys saying FS9 is just for simmers with old hardware who flies in 2d cockpit only!!!

This. Fully agree with you, there are situations and usage models in which FS9 not only is competitive, but also a more stable and reliable platform. And each user has it's own sim preferences, so it's up to each one to find the best solution for its case.

Sorry i must say, this was the worst fs9 purchase experience for me. It looks good, i agree about that, but i never managed to set this plane to fly properly. I don't remember anymore, fsuipc problem i think, but anyway i remember that plane was a way too sensitive on manual flying and just bad flight dynamics. And support does not exist, it's users support in forums.

Tell me how was it your flying experience with this airbus? Maybe i missed the last version?

I had issues with the A/P only before version 1.4 but now it's all good. I also had the registered fs9 version of FSUIPC.....maybe that helped.

This puzzles me a bit to be honest. My PC specs are almost the same as yours apart from a weaker graphics card and I don't have any problems flying complex airliners for hours and didn't have with my old i7 920 either. If I actually gave a toss I'd probably get a bit fed up with FS9 fan boys constantly trying to make FSX sound a lot worse than it is, just because it was a bit of a pig on release.

Anyway, the OP asked which sim he should get, and although asking that question here is a bit like going to a VW dealer and ask if he should get that or a BMW, he's got my answer now. :)

FS9 :t0148: FSX ..................Xplane10 :p0816:

One of the reasons I switch from FS9, was that FS9 people were so touchy and sensitive. No, just joking, but it sometimes seems that all you have to do is mention the word FSX to some FS9 people and they immediately go on as if users who have switched to FSX are out to get them! I had a lot of good times back in the FS9 days, but I'm coming up on over 4 years in FSX, and believe it or not, some advancements have been made in that time, which some people such as myself have determined are worth the configuration hassles that come with FSX. That doesn't mean I think FSX is great, in fact I have many complaints with it, think it is a pain much of the time, and will be glad when something better comes along. But despite that, it just means that I found it impossible to go back to the older program after making fair comparisons and the realization that if I wanted FS9 levels of image quality or realism, I could simply run the FSX at FS9 levels if I wanted to do that, so there was absolutely no reason to go retrograde--I have a copy of FS9, and if I wanted to reinstall it, nothing would stop me from having it side by side, but I see no reason for it. It isn't "class warfare", its just a simulation decision.

Ok so here is the deal......

I flew FS9 for at least 4 years, I have been on FSX now for just over a year, I do not have a bias.

Use FS9 if you believe your PC cant handle FSX even with the tweaks, also keep in mind to get the best out of FS9 you will also be tweaking the .cfg (I know I tweaked the s**t out of FS9), however with how old FS9( is most of the tweaking you will be doing will be trying to maximize the graphics. Considering your post about 2D Cockpits and the fact you tried 3D VC and did not like them, my recommendation is for you to stick with FS9. Most (and remember I said most NOT ALL) 3rd party developers for FSX/P3D are not making their aircraft come with 2D Panels.

I used to be a 2d Panel guy myself, however as weird as this may seem what changed me to a VC guy was MS Flight. I found the detail and the added challenge of flying in a 3D VC a lot of fun. The great thing about 2D Panels is that finding a very high quality one is pretty easy especially in FS9, and FS9 has tons upon tons of freeware available for it. I hope this all helps you decide, again I personally fly FSX and cant go back to FS9 because of the VC controls and details, but FS9 with the right stuff you can get it looking almost exactly like FSX. I wish you the best of luck and safe flying :p0502:

FSX is incredible, i think.

But 90% of my time is in FS9.

The detail in FSX is unmatched by FS9; the texutres, the immersion, etc. . . . But i don't have a capable machine of running it full blast. Every time i get the itch to blow a few grand on a machine that will run it, i find another thread here about someone with the latest hardware having problems.

I've spent more than I should have on FSX add-ons, but even at 12-15fps, its still fun sometimes.

With FS9, i can turn everything full blast and not have to worry about it crashing or stuttering. There are some amazing add-ons for FS9 that rival FSX quality; but it will never be as good. And i'm okay with that, because FS9 never frustrates me.

So at this point, i'm going to sit on what i have and wait to see what comes about in the next couple of years.
