ActiveSky 2004 with framerate friendly 32 bit cloud textures. Very satisfied.

I went ahead and bought AS2004 (installed the latest patch as well) and from what I can tell it seems to be a pretty good program. There is still some stuttering with weather updating and it seems AS2004 utilizes more resources than FSMeteo. What solves the problem of resources and performance for me is setting the affinity to use one processor instead of two (HT Technology). I'm still testing because now I'm wondering will FSMeteo perform better using one processor.

Hi,Thanks for giving us a try! If I remember right the suggestion is to disable HT while using FS.Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

LOL, you act so surprized. Do a search fo HT here and I think that is what you will find. Don't ask me though, my AMD64 3400 serves me just fine!Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

Default weather works for me, and I wouldn't want a program that requires you to either shut things down, or eliminate the features that you paid to have in order to get it to work smoothly, not to mention having one other thing running in the background.

ActiveSky 2K4. Nice program

Dillon,I even found the thread that you, yourself said that disabling HT helped you. Would you like the link?Hope this helps,JimActiveSky Supporthttp://www.hifisim.com/images/as2004proudsupporter.jpg

I remember that but I recanted on that because of other programs I use. I was having problems running Flight1's Meridian. I found setting the affinity on FS depending on what I use works fine in most cases. I had no idea weather programs ran better without HT. That's still new to me. Furthermore HT technology should be turned off when you first install WindowsXP. It's not recommended to just go and shut it off in the BIOS when one feels like it. Throwing Microsoft's recommendation in the can, I'm going to give this a try (shutting HT off in the BIOS) at home to see if I get overall better performance. If I remember correctly, there's not a big improvement all the way around. Now maybe I need to revisit this issue because maybe subtle things I overlooked like smooth weather update performance....
