August 6, 200421 yr I'm wondering what has worked the best for most of you simmers out there as far as weather programs go??? I'm currently using FSMetro but have started to notice problems with it. There's a 'Download weather and stay offline' option that was working great for me until this week. The program used to download weather for the entire globe and stay offline. This reduced all those in-flight updates that caused terrible stuttering on my system until the weather fully updated. Now I'm finding that option no longer works ... Low and behold I'm discovering now FSMetro is updating frequently as the stutters in FS2k4 has returned when weather is updating. I couldn't believe it until I noticed tonight while flying I jumped back to the desktop when I started getting a slight slide show that staying offline is no longer an option. FSMetro was updating away when it shouldn't have been. Now I'm wondering are there other programs that actually get the weather and stay offline like advertised. I don't care to have my weather updating every 2 minutes when I can just get a snapshot of the weather and fly stutter free. I don't know what happened to FSMetro to stop this feature from working. Maybe an uninstall/reinstall might solve the problem...
August 6, 200421 yr FS9's own realweather. Was using AS2004 until recently where i found it causing some microstutter on my FS9.After that ,never used. Also there was an annoying bug which caused spesific airports to always have minimal visibility.(And i mean minimal)I find FS real weather to work fine for me,and i also feel in some cases its more FPS friendly and nicer to look at.My opinion though.
August 6, 200421 yr I am using ActiveSky 2004. It is running on my second PC and connected to FS via WideFS. No fps loss.
August 6, 200421 yr Hi,I use AS2004 (activesky), its a top notch program, and the way it handles wind changes with the new version and the new FSUIPC is excellent.Does not effect fps any more than default weather.Dan.
August 6, 200421 yr Using ActiveSky2004 as well, Not sure where Sven's getting FPS Loss, but I can't see if coming from AS2004.
August 6, 200421 yr I am using FS9 real world weather right now.I have used FSMeteo before, but the latest versions got me stutters and lockups.
August 6, 200421 yr Didnt say it was a FPS loss, but microstutters. They do not affect the FPS,but they are visually disturbing.
August 6, 200421 yr I use FSMeteo as well. You could try deleting your FSMeteo folder, then go into your C:Windows folder and search for the FSMeteo config file there and delete it.Then re-install FSMeteo and try it again. I don't use the "get world weather and stay offline" option but sometimes (and I have the latest version) I would get a message saying the version is outdated or something. THe advice from Marc. (the FSMeteo developer) was to do just what I outlined above and re-install. I also have ActiveSky, but hardly use it. You get beautiful clouds, but the route based weather smoothing only sets the average wind for the entire flight. FSMeteo gives more accurate winds aloft which better represents the info from aloft charts online. Finally, if you're having a problem with one of the functions of FSMeteo, just send an email to the developer.....in my case, I've found that he answers my emails within hours. At least exhaust these avenues before dumping the program completely.
August 6, 200421 yr I use FS9 default weather program.Has anybody been able to find a solution to sharp contrasts between visibility layers?Victor
August 6, 200421 yr Thanks Anthony and the rest of you guys. I'm going to email the developer and reinstall the program per your suggestion. I just don't want to buy another weather program only to find I'm getting pauses and stutters everytime the weather updates. It really hurts to be on the takeoff roll and have the sim pause or go into a slide show until the weather fully updates. It sucks on the climb out as well. Better yet anytime in flight it's terrible. What boggles my mind is the offline weather worked correctly before, now it's acting like I chose the default option (update every 2 minutes). How can you go from updating once to every 2 to 3 minutes. When I had the older version of ActiveSky it did the exact same thing. I want to get downloaded weather once and never be bothered with updates again during my flight.... Again thanks guys... If anyone has another suggestion please chime in.I'm surprised to hear some of you are using the default weather. Using MS's default weather will have you in rain up to 10,000ft and clear skies suddenly after you reach 12,000ft. FSMetro will do a better job than that if it doesn't suddenly update from the web. I found using the 'Download and Stay Offline' option is you'll see a Front and are able to fly in and out of it without the weather pattern suddenly disappearing without a trace.:-roll FS2020 Alienware Aurora R11 10th Gen Intel Core i7 10700F - Windows 11 Home 32GB Ram NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super OC 16GB - Pimax Crystal Light VR
August 6, 200421 yr "You get beautiful clouds, but the route based weather smoothing only sets the average wind for the entire flight. FSMeteo gives more accurate winds aloft which better represents the info from aloft charts online."Anthony,That is no longer the case. That option was an interim solution until a way could be figured out to smooth out the winds via FSUIPC rather than with the AS2004 program itself. Now, the winds (all over the globe) are just as they are reported. It matches FSMeteo, and even surpasses it with some of the new options just released with the new build. I recommend you go to the AS2004 forum here and download the latest build and give it a whirl.
August 6, 200421 yr Commercial Member Hi all,Just a quick note that AS2004 MR2 B130 beta is now available, and has many enhancements such as new visibility smoothing and graduated clearing, new direct wind control, elimination of route-based wind smoothing and associated non-realistic winds, full fsuipc wind smoothing integration, and much more. Pretty much a brand new add-on... Existing AS2004 customers can pick it up (free) at our forum here on AVSIM. Damian ClarkHiFi Simulation Technologies
