A GTX 690 is a waste of money for FSX. The slight performance gain over a 680 doesn't justify the outlandish cost of a GTX 690.

Which is why I bought it for other gaming purposes.

BTW, Ben is a good chap, and I hope you can both persuade me about your claims...

I feel like we go through this every few weeks. - I can honestly garuntee you that the performance increases in heavy clouds are greater than 50% when comparing a GTX580 to a GTX680. I've posted some links below to support my claims.

But then you say... buy a GTX 660Ti or GTX 670, a GTX 680 isn't even much quicker

This is also false. The 660Ti is about 20% faster than the 580. 670 incrementally..etc

Howard, please note that these numbers are ONLY in regards to HEAVY clouds and high levels of AA+AF.

OK, I'm being brought round slowly ^_^

Hi Ben

Did you notice any difference in FPS in non GPU based scenarios with your new 660ti ? What was your old card, a 560 ti or a 580 ?

Hi Paul,

I noticed little difference in actual FPS in non-GPU scenarios. - However, I did notice a tangible increase in smoothness.

My old card was a GTX580. In fact, I made a thread comparing them head to head a few months ago.

Thanks Ben, interesting .......

In what areas specifically John?

Hi Howard,

Like you, I am running an IPS monitor. I have the 27" 2560x1440 and found with decent levels of AA I would struggle at larger airports, or with lots of clouds. If I swapped to my 23" 1900x1080 monitor it would run a lot better. But I wanted the best of both worlds, decent AA settings on a large resolution.

I understand the GTX 680 offers better performance at larger resolutions, this was one of the main reasons I decided to go for it. I have tweaked some settings and I'm very happy with the results.

I can now get 30FPS solid at places like FSDT LAX where I used to struggle to get 15-20 and it'd stutter, a lot.

The interesting thing is that we've all 'known' for years that graphics cards don't matter much for fsx...but recently there has been an increasing chorus of voices reporting great results with the 4gig kepplers.

Not sure why it's working so well but these do seem to be the cards that fsx has always wanted.

I've succumbed to avsim peer pressure and have a gtx680 4gig on the way...

OK, OK, I'm won over... darn it, looks like it's gonna cost me some dosh :O :(  So, guys, looking at this card...MSI GeForce GTX 660Ti Power Edition 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card, from what has been said, would be a good upgrade? I really don't think I can justify getting rid of my one year old 580 just yet, unless I could justify the 660ti if there was an improvement, or do I really need to move to the 680?

So you say that incrementally a 670 is faster than a 660Ti, and a 680 is faster than a 670, and so on? Please note, I mean in FSX only, in other games there is a bigger difference of course.

Others reported only a 0.5 FPS difference between the 680 and 670, or did you get different results?

You need a 680 4gig card and a bit of an overclock especially if your interested FSDT Vancouver FPS been around 25 to 31, spend the extra money for this card and get the evga card if you can, you need to make a major jump 2gig is not enough to add with opus running it had an impact on this scenery never noticed opus being an issue with opus off and very few clouds scenery was solid at 30 fps also NI limiter is crap for me the external limiter was solid fyi, also if you think force textures 4096 set to off that does not work actually I think it was a bit better maybe due to my GPU

DId anyone test the 680 vs 670 specifically, or otherwise the 670 vs the 660Ti and noticed any difference at all?
