DX9 or DX10

"Addon Converter X w" did nothing to convert flytampa kbos unless I'm missing something.

I do not think all scenery products are compatible, even after conversion. I believe there will always be a few products that will not work with DirectX 10. FlyTampa Vienna works properly on my system, though, at least during the day (the night lighting does not work).

Flightbeam ksfo won't render correctly at night with dx10 either.

How does it appear (I do not own FlightBeam KSFO)? The textures at Vienna seem to render correctly, but the ground lights appear as cones/pyramids/triangles at night. I didn't really bother trying to fix the issue, as I hardly fly at night.

The ground lights appear as grey geometric shapes and the runway textures look like a grey black blob.

I never played around with airport lights.. I don't have any add on AP's, but all my stock ones seems just fine in DX10. I wouldn't let an add on AP keep me from DX10 at any rate. Maybe it's time you guys checked for better/newer AP's? I'd also contact those dev's and see if they have updates, or will consider a DX10 compatible release.

Lights in general are a work in progress. A couple of AC I have had square lights, so I swapped them out with the RealAir lights from the T-duke... solved!

The benefits of DX10, warrant at least as much time as tweaking DX9.

You're not missing anything. It won't work unless you upgrade the textures to FSX. I have Flightbeam's KSFO and it works perfectly during the daytime. I have not tried it at night but know there are incompatibilities with some lighting at night. Perhaps someone will develop a fully compatible DX10 product like FSDT did purposely for Vancouver. And, since FSDT developed Vancouver with DX10 in mind, perhaps they and Flightbeam will upgrade their products to full DX10 capability. Since Steve's Shader10 fix, many more members have become DX10 fans and there will be more improvements in the future. It's best you wait until then or live with some of the incompatibilties.

Best regards,

Jim

To add to my comments above, the addon converter does work for many products but not all. The DX10 forum has many comments on the compatibilities/incompatibilities of various sceneries. Fortunately the addon converter has a demo mode where you can try before you buy.

If you delve into the world of airport scenery (or even look at screen shots), you will find that FlyTampa is one of the most highly regarded developers, and its products are outstanding in coverage, performance, and visuals. While FlightBeam is smaller and is only on its third project, its products have been highly regarded as well.

You're really missing out and overlooking the potential of FSX if you have not considered any add-on (either freeware or payware) airports! You do not need many, but having a high-quality rendition of your home base is very nice.

Indeed! I do have a few freeware AP's, and they all work in DX10. If I was a customer of FlyTampa, I would send them an e-mail about DX10 compatibility. It may be easy to fix for them, and then they may even increase that high regard.
