Battery Start/ Push Start

Featured Replies

Good evening all!

I'm fairly new to the JS41 and I love it. (Wish there was an E-120 in the works :D)

I have a question about push back and engine start. On the panel it says pushback prohibited with engines running. Well, I load and prepare my flight in the FMC prior to starting the engines. I use the GPU. Now obviously I can't push back with the GPU connected or with an engine running, but if I were to push back, disconnect from the tug (using GSX) then do a battery start, I'd lose my flight plan when turning the FMC back on.

Is there a way to avoid that, I'm aiming for realism and I don't want to start one engine then push back when it says I can't :D.

Am I missing something something totally obvious? I hope not!

Thanks in advance!

Luis.

Luis,

This has come up before. The J-41 can actually turn very well in the real world, so it doesn't need to be pushed back from the gate. They just start their engines and pull out of the gate on their own power. Additionally, they weren't parked in any normal way. Here's an old picture from the J-41 gates for ACA at IAD:

You can see all of the odd taxi lines to bring them in to the gates. After boarding, they'd just start, turn right and taxi on out (under a marhsaller's guidance, of course).

So, in your case, use the GPU to get everything ready. Start the left engine (the GPU is behind the right engine in the sim), transfer the power to the left GEN, disconnect the GPU, and start the right engine. Turn on that GEN after the engine is stable. Take off the start locks and taxi away.

Kyle, thanks for the quick reply! I see how it works now. I appreciate the explanation, thanks!

being that I use to work for US Airways at KCHS, we had Beech 1900D's that would come in and do basically the same thing. yeah i know its not a J-41, but they will operate the same way. the procedure that we would do is have them Taxi in to the gate on Engine 2 (right side engine) shutting Engine 1 down (Left side --- this is the side with the door). they could open the door, and we could open the baggage area behind the wing and they could leave Engine 2 running the whole time. Unload // Load, close up the doors, Start engine 1.. right turn with the marshalling agent, and see ya later. no prob bob.

Sometimes when we were in a hurry with a CRJ-200, 700-ER, ERJ-145... we would have them do the same thing, park where they can get out on their own, shut down E-1, unload, load, start E-1, and see ya later.

Total time on ground -- 20 min either plane.

You can save the flightplan in FMC. I believe it should be in lower right LSK. Physically, the FPL file goes to Your FSX/FMDH/Flightplans folder.

After power-up of GNS-XLS, after start, you only need to provide start location, load a flightplan previously saved (FPL button twice as I remember) plus enter reserves and cruising altitude.

You're welcome. That kinda perplexed me as well when I first started flying it.
