Hi All,I posted on the flight1 forum, asking for some comparison screenshots with the freeware water textures....Still no response from flight1!I am a great fan of their products... but not sure if this one is worth splashing out for ( excuse the pun ).Still hoping to see some comparison.Paul ( SPIM )

"Yes, water textures are prolific and free on many popular download sites, but we would not have produced a commercial package without thinking that the packages offers more than what could be obtained for free."That's a pretty one sided way of looking at things and that's ok. But in this case you're are wrong in my opinion, freeware is way better in this category.Carmine http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/Images/wave.gif

Whats next - payware runway textures :D :DThis is getting silly now if anyone asks me. Talk about milking the peverbial cow.My

I hope that Flight 1 isn't turning into another Abacus.Tim13

it doesnt bother me one bit that F1 releases a product that we can all get as freeware...to each his own, at least its got something noone else has and thats a front end which controls the texture loading which would make things a tad easier when it comes to reinstall time....F1 always try to release quality products and just because we dont all agree whether or not its the best set of textures DOESNT mean it isnt quality work. ...If you always want the best from F1 no matter what else is available then do what i typically do when it comes to F1 products...only buy what F1 themselves develop, ive never been dissapointed with any product theyve actually manufactered themselves.Dave

"I hope that Flight 1 isn't turning into another Abacus."OUCH!!Flight1 makes some of the best products available to the simming hobby. I believe they're a long way from becoming an Abacus. This offering makes me scratch my head though... why offer a payware package when so many alternatives are free?Greg

>Whats next - payware runway textures :D :D;-)Actually I would be willing to shell out say $15 for runway textures provided they offered substantial improvement over the current offerings. I don't mind paying if I see that someone really put in an effort and broke some new grounds. Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg

There are some very silly comments in this post:>I hope flight one will not start to >sell useless stuff like that's, Not >a good idea for their standard quality. So is it useless because it's payware, or is the freeware stuff also useless?>but this seems like something they >just threw up there to make an extra buckThey threw up? Maybe it was the developer who approached them.>Just seems like a gimmick designed to >gouge those who are new to the hobbyThis from a moderator? Where's the moderation? >Talk about milking the peverbial cow.Cows have no other choice, has it occured to anyone we do? (Never mind)>I hope that Flight 1 isn't turning into another Abacus. This one is a classic (classically ridiculous).Meanwhile those of us who come here to get some balanced opinions are left waiting...and waiting. This is freedom of expression gone mad - same garbage that went on with the Aussie Warrior.

Freedom of expression means exactly that. Cant have it both ways unless you want it to be "freedom to agree with us, or else"I think that what we have here is a balanced expression of feelings on both sides of the coin. Nothing offensive or objectionable. If you are so concerned perhaps you should:1: Buy the product and write a review, inlcuding the screenshots that Flight 1 appear to have missed to prove how brilliant the textures (allegedly) areand 2: Sign your name to your posts so that we all know who you are. Loose Cannon is not a name, it's a disfunction. In the meantime, pwover15.zip is still in the library. I tried Peter's earlier efforts. I now use the Vilk textures in preference to them or to Bill Lyons. Says it all, really. Peter's 15 or so attempts were good, but they were based on earlier efforts by other freeware authors. I would hope that there are no remnants of that freeware development in the new payware or else Flight 1 are treading on very thin ice. Perhaps Avsim could investigate?Allcott

I'd seriously like to see a video of these textures in action, I have to say I'm not at all convinced they're significantly different from the various free ones out there.Have funFinn

And, reading the Flight 1 page, it appears the textures actually might be a step BACKWARD from the previous freeware sets - their claim to fame was that they operated well with the effect slider set to the middle, for better fps. That was what prompted me to try pwover15.zip on my old rig.The website makes a specific point of recommending that the slider is now moved all the way to the right. Allcott

>Freedom of expression means exactly that. Cant have it both>ways unless you want it to be "freedom to agree with us, or>else"No it doesn't, otherwise posts would never be deleted or locked. I do not object to constructive criticism or opposing views, nothing in my words suggests that, what I am about is *how* they are expressed.>I think that what we have here is a balanced expression of>feelings on both sides of the coin. Nothing offensive or>objectionable. You are kidding yourself.> If you are so concerned perhaps you should:>1: Buy the product and write a review, inlcuding the>screenshots that Flight 1 appear to have missed to prove how>brilliant the textures (allegedly) are>andThe fact that someone hasn't done that yet is an indication that nobody has bothered before shooting their mouth off. I don't know if they are any good and I won't be buying it for now, I'm not one who buys everything at the first chance. In fact textures is not even my interest in FS, only got interested because of the blatantly unfair comments being made. >2: Sign your name to your posts so that we all know who you>are. Loose Cannon is not a name, it's a disfunction. Why should I? Mine is no more or less an identification than your is, i don't know who you are by yours. You don't even have your profile on. Why do you want to know who I am anyway? >In the meantime, pwover15.zip is still in the library. I tried>Peter's earlier efforts. Now it's texture-gate! :-roll

It's seldom that I have read so much BS about a release. So F1 has released a texture pack? So what? If people are of the opinion that the freeware versions are better, then they don't need to buy it. What's all the fuss about? I bought F1's Meridian, although I coud've had a freeware version. Why? Cos it was better than the freeware version. 'Nuf said. You pay your money and take your choice, nobodies gonna be forced to buy this....BestGrahame (EDHL)
