January 9, 201313 yr I have bought this beautiful product and I am busy now reading the manual but I just want to know if it is possible to take off without the use of the FMC (as I do with the level D 767) I have tried to using the auto pilot but I could not manage to set the vertical rate of climb nor the heading. Does it say anything in the manual about this. stelios Stelios Christofides
January 9, 201313 yr Stelios, Yes you can take off without the FMC being programmed. Yes you can change the altitude and height manually. For altitude enter your desired altitude and rate of climb then press the altitude intervene button. Never had any issues with the heading button just dialed up my heading then hit the heading button. Pete McMahon
January 9, 201313 yr Turn F/D on to use autopilot, it's off by default(when you just load NGX in fsx) Zeljko Budovic

January 9, 201313 yr Author Thanks guys for your answers. I would like to set up the plane in the Cold and Dark option but I can never do that. When I load the 737 everything is up and running. I bring up the FMC, then I press the menu button so I can bring up the PMDG SETUP but it doesn't, what I get on the last right hand buttons a green word saying SIMU>. In the manual it says that it should show the PMDG SETUP so I can choose the cols and dark option. What am I doing wrong? strelios Stelios Christofides
January 9, 201313 yr Commercial Member What am I doing wrong? Make sure you're running FSX as an administrator, and better yet, give yourself (and your computer) full admin rights to the entire Microsoft Flight Simulator folder: To do this, navigate to the Microsoft Games folder on your drive and:Right click on the Flight Simulator X folder:Select Properties Select the Security tab at the top Click on the Users account in the Group box In the Permissions box, check the box Full Control, Click OK. This grants you (a User - Tron reference? ) and the programs you use in that folder admin rights to the folder. Essentially, what is happening is the computer is writing the changes (your key assignments) to a 'ghost' (Compatibility Files) folder, which the PMDG Options panel ignores the next time you run it. Using admin rights writes those changes to the actual file, not a file in a 'ghost' folder. As a quick note, if you have problems with any other program (especially when it comes to settings not saving, etc), you should grant admin rights to the program's location first before trying other things. UAC has its place in Windows, but it ends up being a bear if you don't know how to keep it in check. Kyle Rodgers
January 9, 201313 yr Author Thanks Kyle I run FSX as an administrator as per your instructions and I got now to use the FMC. Now the long learning curve starts. stelios Stelios Christofides
January 9, 201313 yr You can take off without programming FMC, You can use AP and AT without FMC You can fly the plane safe without FMC. FMC is not so important for the basic flight. All you need to put to have all the required info can be set directly on the main panel itself. GW (gross weights) is needed for stall warning computation, it can be entered by knobs Speed bugs (V1,Vr,V2, Vref) can be set also by knobs, they are only for reference. no impact on the plane behaviour. N1 limit can be set manually on the main panel, it will set the maximum N1 that the AT will be able to reach. Autopilot/autothrottle modes: SPD N1 LVL CHG HDG APP VS VORLOC are all avaiable, FD on or off is not important, they must be on only for take off if you want to use the TOGA function. ALT INTV, LNAV, VNAV SPD INTV cannot be used as they are FMC related. To activate a mode, set it on with aircraft controls to "neutral" set the values (heading, speed, VS, altitude) and push the relative button. When active the button is lighted. AP A or B must be on CMD (lighted) Check the display for what mode is active or armed. APP is the only light that works different, but, check the tutorials for the full description.
