August 13, 200421 yr Ok, I think that this might officially be the coolest contest ever. I'm totally unqualified - especially given that I'm not in Denver. But hey - if they want to fly me in and try out some drunk 747 piloting tests, I can return to Pennsylvania and try out my skills, since it's legal. But man. 747. Motion. Simulator.I just hope Avsim can post the videos somehow!Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
August 13, 200421 yr Well, being some 5000, maybe 6000 miles east of Denver, I guess I don't qualify either!! Too bad! That sounds like an amazing prospect.....much kudos to Ken Mitchell too as it's his panel that is recommended, to compare to the real deal!! It's a nice panel too...I feel very comfortable using it!I have to admit to turning an odd shade of green with the envy felt for those lucky sods who get to participate in this brilliant idea, and look forward very much, albeit through heavily ground teeth, to seeing the press releases and photo's of the event here, afterwards.Good luck to the lucky (sod!!) winner, and I hope you have a really great day..... ;) Let's see if it really IS 'as real as it gets'!!Footnote:For those that don't know, the word 'sod' is an English mild invective applied to someone, frequently when the utterer of said word is in envy of the recipient, as in "you lucky sod"! Can also be used as an equivalent to the American term of "A-hole"!!I use it in my post in a light hearted and non-aggresive manner only.....it's only pure jealousy that brings forth it's usage!! ;)A sentiment I'm sure that will be felt by most, if not all, of the regular users of this forum and website, except of course for the lucky sod who gets to partake in the challenge!!! ;)
August 14, 200421 yr I totally agree, this is fantastic and anyone who's in the area and qualifies should try it out!Pitty that im in the UK, and have flown a real B777 motion simulator :-) otherwise id jump at the chance. Alaister Kay
August 14, 200421 yr Author "much kudos to Ken Mitchell too as it's his panel that is recommended"And what a recommendation! I downloaded it, and I'm sure we're about to see the number of downloads jump.I'm just hoping that someone takes good notes and that we can read about it here!Kudos to Mr. Mitchell, and AVSIM. Bravo everyone!Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
August 14, 200421 yr yarvelling has summed up my feelings exactly :-) and much kudos to UAL for offering this interesting competition.I look forward to the report of competition.best wishes to the winners.
August 14, 200421 yr You guys would do this to me!!!!!!! Since I grew up in Colorado Springs I wasn't going to miss this years conference for the world but alas I have to go to Germany while the conference is on this year so no conference and especially no full motion sim time because I was going to book some time without fail. Now this contest comes up and I will not be able to go to Denver on any of those days. I live in Ohio but it is very easy for me to get to Denver anytime I want, well any time except these. Oh, life really is cruel! :-lol I know that I could qualify based on my flying abilities in MSFS so that makes matters even worse. :-) I would give my right arm and left leg to be able to do something like this! Thanks Avsim for ruining my life. :-lol That is totally meant as a joke, I find this whole situation very amusing! Thank you Avsim and United Airlines for offering such a wonderful contest, it is too cool! As for all of the winners I wish you all of the best and enjoy every second of your lucky break. Think of us who were not able to be there and please bring back and tell us what it was like! Best of luck to you all! Take care,Philip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
August 15, 200421 yr I live in the Denver area but am a private pilot, so I'm out. Like all you others though, I'll be interested in the results :)Bruce. ASEL, Instrument. KBJC, Colorado.
August 15, 200421 yr Well Gents, I thought I would be last in list of 200 or so for consideration but as luck would have it, I'm off to the UAL training center bright and early Monday morning for some 747 approaches and will try not to make a complete fool of myself. I find myself wishing I had decent a 400 to practice with. Wonder if my 2K2 and PSS 744 still works? : Jay EKlund UVA/GCVA Pile-it
August 15, 200421 yr Author Prepare for lots of questions ;)And don't forget to get some sleep, will ya?I think as a serious simmer you have a far smaller chance of making a fool of yourself than the experienced pilot who gets distracted with something like a bleed air malfunction and ends up depressurizing the cabin or something. If that's even possible?!?Great luck to you and have a fantastic experience. Please let us know about it!BTW beautiful website.Best,Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
