So I thought that most airports were working fine with DX10, until I land at a couple and find night textures aren't working for taxiways and buildings... Only some pay ware airports.

 

Is it safe to run the addon converter to just fix the night textures? Or will it try to convert the whole lot?

Despite its name, Addon Converter X does not convert anything in FSX.

What it does do is convert textures and then store them in a cache, leaving the FSX

installation unchanged.

It then uses the cached textures to display items correctly.

 

You can therefore, use it in complete "safety", however, left to its own devices, it will try to convert all textures and this will

massively lengthen the loading time the first time you use it.

Once running and the textures converted, I have seen no adverse effects on FSX performance.

 

When you open the AddonConverter X configurator, you will see that you can select areas and aircraft to be processed, or not and I would suggest that you go through this list before you start.

You can select them in blocks, as you can select files in Explorer, then right click and select or deselect the whole block at once.

Otherwise, for example, if you allow it to convert Orbx textures, they will not display properly and you will see squares in the coastal waters

and some inland textures.

If you don't want AddonConverter X to do anything but you also don't want to uninstall it, simply uncheck all the items.

If it has processed something and you don't like the result, there is a "Clear cache" button, which will remove the converted textures from the cache

and thus allow FSX to use the default textures again.

 

My guess would be that textures that do not display at night will not be cured by AddonConverterX and that the problem lies in the way FSX deals with them

in Dx10.

If not, what about using Dx10 in daytime and Dx9 at night, if you have set FSX up well, you only need to untick one box or alter a 1 to a 0.

This is very interesting as I've noticed the square water textures in Orbx areas but never associated it with using AddonConverterX.

 

Which textures would you suggest not to be processed as it does resolve problems with Orbx AI textures?

I don't let it process any of the Orbx scenery, just the AI aircraft,.

the scenery seems to be quite happy with Dx10.

 

I also have Aerosoft Iceland X and if I allow it to process their textures,

they look terrible, so I don't.

 

I would suggest that you open the configurator, clear the cache, de-select

everything and then select only aircraft for processing.

Any aircraft you know to be native FSX can be excluded.

 

Run the pre-processing and then fly Orbx.

I suspect you may see that other anomolies have also disappeared.

 

As you then fly in different areas, you can select processing if required where problems arise.

 

I have found that with Mr Parsons' fixes applied, mine is only processing the MaamSim DC3, which

is much too good to lose, everything else just works, I don't fly at night though.

I find the majority of things are fine with DX10 so I'm going to be very selective and only select airports that don't work properly.

Unfortunately it doesn't fix the night textures :( I suppose it's only at a few airports, I can't go back to DX9.. DX10 is just too good.

Definitely, I'm halfway thorugh "re-duxing" all my aircraft and I have applied the Ultimate Traffic 2 lights configs as well they look great. The only aircraft I'm having trouble with is the simcheck A300 I just can't get the landing lights right arghh. But very happy with these in DX10.

 

This doesn't help night textures though, it's the scenery like the buildings mostly, dawn, dusk, and night they are not textured. It's like the developer ported over the night textures from FS2004, but upgraded the day ones for FSX standards when re-releasing these airports.

 

I found another one today, LatinVFR. When I find these at departure, I'll just change to daytime and fly a day flight... Addon converter isn't helping these

 

 

Oh. I applied the FSX lights fix from the dx10 folder which is OK on the aircraft but the runways is most airports are very dim or dark. That's what I thought the A2A pkg fixed. No lighting on taxiways either.

 

I guess we have to switch to dx9 when using these airports. Or go to day.

No the A2A shockwave lights is for aircraft, not runways.. Unless they have another one - in which case I want to know

 

My runway lights do show but taxi lights are only close to the aircraft, they don't go far enough. If there is a way to tweak this? Navigating the ground at night would improve..

 

Ps I have Activesky runway and taxi lighting I think. Maybe that's why I see them

Hello all

I bump this topic and must confess that I am overwhemed.

Two days ago make the step to DX10 and was converted to the new religion instantly, mainly because the water and the smoothness.

But also I had to face some issues that are overwhelming me also.

The main one is I cannot get rid of textures charging very slowly, and, in certain moments, the texture charging stucks and I finish with a nice blue cockpit.

I have tried tweaking myself, followig the main doc, but I do not perceive any significant change in FSX behaviour, so I ask somebody help to begin.

My system (Know is not the ideal, but is all I can afford)

The othes aspect is related with the well know night textres "not charging" (is clear that "something" is charged, No blue things), but the soil is not lighted, an other issues.

Airport Scenery density would be better at "1", and LOD is better at 4.5.. the rest looks fine.

To upload an fsx.cfg, just rename it as "{your name]_fsx.txt" - like "Paul_fsx.txt" - it will upload fine after that- OK?

 

If you check the Shader download, there is a bonus pck, and inside is a "Dark Background Texture" folder. Inside is a texture which needs to be placed in the root folder of FSX. This will fix the blue squares.

Still have problems with the textures. They load 1 minute later.

I use to fly commecial jets (Airbus), an on arriving, finding blurries, lack of textures on the runway and all the model in black. If I have patiente, all the secenery is charged, but after a nice time.

Playing with TBM and FFTF, but not finding a balanced sollution so far.

Would you say that the bottleneck in my system is the GPU, or is much more a problem of CPU?
