DX10 With Multiple Monitors

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I have been running DX10 for about a week now and with some tweaking I have a fantastically smooth sim. I decided to utilize a small LCD TV to display the flight displays as shown in the pics. I am running full screen and have dragged the flight displays to the 2nd monitor. My question is now I am using 2 monitors I am back to having ever so small stutters. It is not horrendous but it was so smooth with DX10 and a single screen. I have adjusted my inspector settings to reflect the other monitor but it hasn't really made a huge difference.

I was wondering if anyone has done anything similar and has still managed to maintain good results with multiple displays

Just thought I would take a minute to say I switched back to DX9 and the problem is solved. It was easy enough I just made the change in my FSX.CFG and loaded my DX9 inspector settings. Smooth as silk again. I'll probably leave it this way for a while, I don't see any huge differences visually between the 2 and it is nice to be able to the flight display as they are in the pictures

Well I decided to jump back in to the world of DX10 and purchased Steve's excellent DX10 Fixer. The whole process was straight forward and so far the results are excellent. Then I hooked up my 2nd 15 " monitor that I use for PFD & ND. As per my post above as soon as I did this I get micro stuttering.

Any ideas why 2 monitors and DX10 cause this?

I really would like to stay with DX10 this time

This probably has nothing to do with your problem, but are both monitors DVI? Or are they both different, i.e. one DVI and the other VGA?

A road worth having a peek down maybe?

I have one of each and can't get full screen without a bit of faffing. Nothing that would make me go back to DX9 though.

Good Morning! First, Richard - note what Ron said, and then look eight posts below this one, (at this moment) where there's a thread on this subject, and the various methods used.

This has been incorporated into the "How-To" DX10 guide this week. Please - download it and go through it line by line, then come back here if you still have a problem - ok!

All the Best,

Thanks guys,

To Ron's question yes both monitors are on different inputs.

27" Main Led is HDM!

15" Secondary is DVI

OK I will download the How to doc again as it has just been updated

Would anyone happen to have a link explaining how this update is implemented. I thought I had the latest revision of the DX10 How to doc but I don't. Now the document isn't available.

Thanks in advance

One of the great mysteries of our time I'm afraid. :(

I would send Paul a PM and see if he would email the how to document to you.   Worth reading if you are going to use DX10.

I did try reaching out to Paul,

Understandably he is probably quite fed up. I just tried the D3DOverrider but it made no difference. FSX still starts on the smaller monitor DVI and although the fps is good it is not smooth. With the Asus 27" on it's own the sim is silky smooth.

Wish I could get to the bottom of this :(

Ok so I managed to get a copy of the new document with the instructions on D3D Overrider. Still not as smooth as a single monitor. With 2 monitors I still cannot get FSX to start on my main monitor. It always stars on my small 15 " then I have to go to windowed and drag it to my 27".

I wonder if it's anything to do with my main monitor using HDMI and the small monitor using VGA to DVI adapter.

In DX9 I never saw an issue. I really Ike having my panels on the smaller monitor for the NGX & 777.

Any suggestions on where to go next?

Richard

Richard, I'll PM you. I'm being dragged out of the door now!

Sorry to barge in here...but may I too get a copy of the how to on DX10 fixer...please

Best regards from Zurich,
Rene

Forget the PM Richard. Here's the nitty gritty.

This 'problem' you're having is the remaining glitch with DX10 as far as I'm concerned. I have learned to live with it though. Here's how.

1. When you load FSX the little progess window pops up on your main monitor.

2. Immediately click on an empty piece of your desktop.

3. A mimimised black window appears. Maximise it.

4.FSX loads as per normal.

5. At this point you can go in and out of full screen mode. However, if you're in the habit of dragging say, the GPS over to your second monitor, once you've positioned it DON'T MOVE IT AGAIN! You'll get the thousand year flickering 'working hourglass' curser. There are two ways of stopping it.

1. Restart FSX

2. Select another aircraft.

Once you've got into the routine your 'problem' will become insignificant and you can enjoy DX10.

The End

Thanks for the reply Ron,

I will certainly give that a go. I still cannot get the wonderful smooth result with 2 monitors that I see with only my main 27 "

I experimented last night with a combination of the D3D Overrider and inspector settings. Funny thing I seem to get the best result by forcing the vsync on in inspector but removing the frame lock in FSX and running unlimited but there are still microstuttters. I used the exact same setup in DX9 and it was good. The one thing that worries me is that I would like to end up with a 3 screen setup for my main view but if this is going to happen I am a little wary. If I could fix this I would be so happy. At the moment with 1 monitor FSX is the best I have ever seen
