It's getting Hot!

My CPU! and not so much as the GPU...

My new fresh install of XP10, promptly upgraded to the latest beta (which, BTW, made me lose those rw lightsing systems again :-( but I will fill a bug report ASAP!...) was quite a test to my upgraded PC configuration, namely 16GB DDR3 RAM, Nvidia Geeforce 650 GTX Ti 1 GB DDR5, and Windows 8 Pro.

The installation of my other simulator (DCS World) was flawless, and it even appears to me it got better performance in Win8.

I rushed setting the graphic options, trying to maximize it to the tops. I am now on HDR, the fourth AA mode in the options list (don't recall the exact ID), max scenery settings less the cars on roads which are two marks bellow max, 64% cloud pufs, between 4 and 14 aircraft where before I had just mine, 6 flight models per frame... Well, I am still getting 23+ fps with this settings, and XP10 runs smooth as silk :-).

Exiting the application and monitoring CPU and GPU temps I see 52ºC for the CPU and around 33ºC for the GPU. It's cold now around here, and even during Summer I don't recall having seen my CPU so hot (I know that for many of you this is cold enough...). Apparently XP10 is really using all of my CPU resources, but I am really tempted to play a bit with Nvidia Inspector, now that I began to use it with DCS World and give a little more of work to the GPU. In that sim I managed to get much better performance and fps stability by using Inspector instead of Game Options. I will try the same with XP10 and report back here my findings...

And... a very strange sensation :-) reminding me of when I first tried XP comming from MSFS - sensitivity! Now X-Plane10, even with all the artificial stab and controller response linearity to the left feels "sluggish"!!!! This results from me having finally "mastered" control inputs in the DCS P51d, which really has a learning curve ;-)

Why did I "return" (never really was that far...) ? Many reasons, but I missed mostly the night scenery, the RL METAR availability and being able to fly at places all over the World where I can find nasty weather conditions, the kind of experience that I really like to do for just a short 30' computer slot at home :-), good add-on airctraft already available and some that will be available in the future and look rather promissing.

I acknowledge the excellent update to the C90, my preferred GA in XP10. Thx Tom!!!! Keep the excellent work!!!

Jcomm 52ºC is not that hot, today's Intel CPU's tend to run hotter then previous generation. I've seen people running at 65+ with out any problems. Are you using stock cooling? If so, try Corsair's H100 water cooling solution, its not that expensive and well worth it.

Very normal my cpu and gpu runs around 60 deg Celsius at full load running XP10 not to worry.

How is 52c hot? you made me feel bad running mine close to 68!

Real world CPL holder.

Hi Jcomm, I use HDR on with 2xSSAA+FXAA.

It gives me the best visuals whilst keeping the FPS reasonable.

Give your CPU a workout with Prime 95 64-bit, that will really heat it up!

If your temp doesn't go above the 70's centigrade during the tests then your cooling solution is fine. Mine is mildy o/c to 3.8 MHz but it stays relatively cool as I have found the sweet spot voltage-wise.
