February 5, 201313 yr I know the visual probably wont be simulated, but do you think it would be possible simulate a blown tire in terms of the systems? thanks Mitch Brown Private Pilot | Aerospace Engineering Major
February 5, 201313 yr MD-11 will say "tire failure" but I'm sure it would be possible to show a blown tire on the EICAS in terms of lost sensors or no pressure. Alex Jevdic KORD/KHOT/KPWKA<380 love at first flight
February 5, 201313 yr In terms of systems it's obviously doable - but I see two potential issues with having blown tyre(s) simulated. Firstly the ground physics and general handling on the ground in FSX is pretty bad and trying to simulate the effect some blown tyres would have on the aircraft would probably be pretty challenging, it'd be easier actually simulating all tyres being blown as opposed to asymmetrical blown tyres, since the former would mostly just involve a higher coefficient of drag whereas if only a few are blown (and it's not symmetric) you'll end up having to simulate the "yaw". Secondly, a few of the factors which determine whether a tyre fails or would be difficult to gauge from FSX. One of the factors being touching down too harshly, despite a lot of FDR/ACARS applications for FSX giving you a touch-down rate when you finish a flight, they are woefully inaccurate - so you'd end up with sometimes doing a normal touchdown and it getting flagged as a very hard touchdown and subsequently giving you a tyre failure, and vice versa. Nevertheless, if it could be implemented properly it would great. Luke Harvest
February 5, 201313 yr I really wouldn't like to preflight an aircraft for a long haul for over an hour to get my tyres blown on departure. On FSX I don't care for failures, if I want some I'll simulate them myself for practice. - Luke Pabari
February 5, 201313 yr I'd rather want PMDG to simulate ice crystals in the fuel to clog the fuel-oil heat exhange (FOHE) that would restrict fuel flow to both engines like what happened back in 2008 with a BAW 777 on final to 27L Lionel

February 6, 201313 yr I really wouldn't like to preflight an aircraft for a long haul for over an hour to get my tyres blown on departure. On FSX I don't care for failures, if I want some I'll simulate them myself for practice. That's the beauty of the system, it won't force failures unless you want them. Since I do nothing but regional or medium hauls they would bring some interesting components to break up the routine as long as its not every other flight. The other reason I like failures (and I hope there will be a way to accelerate service based ones on the 777) is that it forces you to preflight and check the aircraft properly. I like to do things fairly realistically, but I struggle to get myself to go through the proper flows if I know everything I'm checking will always be working! Jordan Forrest
