Am I dreaming too big?

Featured Replies

I was watching a video online of a 737 takeoff. It was snowing like crazy, and there was a dense fog in the air. It was night, and I noticed when the plane took-off the strobe lights reflected on the fog. You know, illuminated it up for a split second?

Here's the video I am referring to:

Skip to about 1:33 and you will know what I am talking about!

Just wondering if something like this is possible for an aircraft like the NGX. I would think if it can illuminate the ground, it can do the same for fog in the air?

It would add so much realism to flying in weather!

Suspect FSX coding wouldn't permit such a thing. Could be wrong.

I would imagine that also. But after reading how they edited the 'sim1.dll" for ground friction, it got my hopes up!

I think A2A (Shockwave) 3D lights may be able to achieve this, but I haven't tried it.

But 'just' when fog is in the weather?

Afaik this can't be done because coulds and fog aren't 3D. You can't realistically project light on a flat sprite.

I agree, I don't think you would get a reflection from the clouds, but that's not what I see in this video. I see the actual beam from the light itself, which I think the 3D lights may give you!!

Thanks

The Lotus L39's lights illuminate rain - which is pretty cool.

Along the same lines, I wish the fellow who is doing all the DX11 shader tweaks could figure a way we could mod the shaders that control the snow effects to slow them down so they float rather that looking like arrows. It could probably be done if someone could figure out how they work.
