February 11, 201313 yr Orbx UK competes with GEX and UTX. I don't think you can run them together. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
February 11, 201313 yr Hi I have all 3 add ons: there is a platform for UTX and another one for ORBX. Personally whenever i run ORBX UK i switch off UTX Europe because if you run both together as far as i know fsx will have to load both UTX Europe and ORBX UK which is heavy on the pc and therefore i notice stutter and slow loading. But when i run them separately its ok. X-Plane11 GTX1070 8GB Vram - i7 4770K cpu @3.5GHz Quad core - 16GB RAM
February 11, 201313 yr I also have UTX EU and GEX EU, and I am very (very) happy with them, particularly in their latest incarnations. But I have to admit that FTX EU looks interesting. My understanding is that all three products can be installed, but that FTX can be switched on/off. If activated, it replaces UTX and GEX for the UK. The reasons stopping me trying/buying FTX EU right now are: 1.I hate the colour or the inland water (too blue) 2.Reports that installing FTX EU can cause problems elsewhere in the world 3.Reports that the FTX on/off activation switch is not always 100% effective 4.Various innaccuracies/problems with FTX EU (that will probably be fixed with SPs) So I too would be Interested to hear experiences of anyone with this combination of products who has made the switch.
February 11, 201313 yr Moderator For me the only good reason for using Orbx UK is to use their UK airports. Of course it's a matter of personal taste, but I don't like their rendition of England at all, and it has caused numerous conflicts with other European scenery I have installed. I can tell you though that I've been able to UTX US with Orbx's PNW without issues.
February 11, 201313 yr well i have to add that most of the time i prefer to fly UTX/GEX EU switched on ...its a matter of convenience because imagine im flying from UK to Paris ...how much convenient it is to switch on/off especially that it is not possible to switch on/off FTX while FSX is running. in Summary i think for Airliners (IFR) UTX/GEX is still the best combination for FSX and for GA (VFR) FTX is the best for sightseeing. For me i do more of Airliners (IFR). Best Regards. X-Plane11 GTX1070 8GB Vram - i7 4770K cpu @3.5GHz Quad core - 16GB RAM

February 11, 201313 yr The answer is no you will NOT have to uninstall UTX nor GEX. UTX, which is largely vector scenery, ie rivers, roads, coastlines etc. will be fully compatible with Orbx Global. GEX, which affects the global textures of FSX does the same thing as Orbx Global will be doing. And that it will be replacing the global textures in your World>Texture folder along with autogen. Therefore the two are NOT COMPATIBLE. However, GEX comes with a backup system and I would expect that Global will also have to do the same in order to restore things to the original state, therefore, you will be able to turn on and turn off, or reestablish ore replace whatever term you like, the original texture sets you have put into that folder. So you should be able to interchange your use of Global or GEX to whichever you prefer. cheers. Bryan Wallis aka "fltsimguy" Maple Bay, British Columbia Near CAM3

I would hope so too ! But if ever I decide to dip my toe in the FTX Global pond, I will be sure to take a full system image backup beforehand. Just in case.
February 12, 201313 yr I used all three on my old PC and tend to prefer the UTX/GEX combo which I'm more than happy with as it gives my sort of flying (jets) the best flexibility. This may change with the FTX global offering when it comes out and becomes affordable.
