Why am I seeing this? MSE V2

Featured Replies

As can be seen in the attached screenshot, I have terrain FSX/GEX textures bleeding through my photoscenery (MegaSceneryEarth 2.0 Alabama). So far, I've only seen this in one location (just south of KHUA), but I haven't explored the entire state yet ;)

I've used other MSE 2.0 photoscenery products (I even have SimSavy's Alabama, which MSE 2.0 'bama is based on) but I've never seen this before.

Best I can figure, either some tiles are missing from the MSE 2 package (which I doubt), or for some reason my PC isn't rendering the photoscenery properly. Assuming the latter, what might I try to correct this problem?

Perplexed.

Have you checked your scenery library priorities.

My photoscenery is above my stock & GEX. In any case, not sure why the photoscenery position in the library would cause patches showing through like what I'm experiencing.

A quick followup in hopes someone with technical savy might be able to point me to a solution.

To verify that the problem isn't due to corrupted download files, I uninstalled MegaSceneryEarth Alabama 2.0 and did a fresh re-install using the DVDs that I just received. I thought at first this had solved the problem, but eventually I found another tile area where the phototextures were not showing. This area was close to, but not the same, as the areas that were present in earlier tests.

Questions for the FSX gurus:

- What might cause phototextures to show in some areas but not in others? 99-percent of Alabama seems to be rendering correctly, but in this particular region I'm getting anomalies... strange.

- If this is a rendering problem, is there anything in the cfg file that I should be looking at (FiberTimeFraction, for example)?

Where's that PC Aviator guy when you need him?

(p.s. Just in case anyone is wondering, I opened a trouble-ticket day the before yesterday, but have received no response so far)

Could be wrong as I have not seen this before but looks like some files are missing from the install itself. Its not bleeding.

I changed your topic title so that the PC Aviator guy might see your post.

It appears to me you are missing those files or the files are corrupted. Perhaps the MSE V2 folks can identify the files and send them to you. GEX replaces your default scenery textures. GEX is not located in the Scenery Library and there is no layering required for it. If there's no airport or other scenery to cover up default textures, the default textures will appear instead.

You state you tried reinstalling the DVD's again and now the missing textures are located elsewhere. It sounds like to me that our DVD installer is not installing some files. Did you clean the DVD? Perhaps there's a smudge on the disk that causes the DVD to skip over a file.

UTX has been known to cause some problems with this photoscenery but I think they have all been corrected (you might check the large MSE thread here in the FSX forum for details). If Alabama is sitting at the top, it should render properly.

Best regards,

Jim

Not exactly... My first install was from files that were downloaded. Those resulted in the pic at the top of this thread. I deleted that install and did a re-install from DVDs I received later. I found a missing area in that install, not as extensive as in my pic, but there nonetheless.

And, by the way, Thank you Jim for taking the time to respond to my problem.

That's... bizarre - I'd have to say some sort of file corruption too due to the square size of the textures missing. You said layering shouldn't be an issue but have the scenery at the very top just to be sure, if you don't already

Thanks, Drew.

MSE Tech Support got back to me, their advice was to move the scenery either above or below GEX, whichever is opposite of where it is now. Of course, GEX is only textures and doesn't appear in the scenery list.

However, on taking a closer look at how my re-install displays, it isn't showing the stark rectangles that I had with my first install (from downloaded files). Instead, I'm seeing stock textures near shorelines and soft edges, like some kind of blend mask effect (you can just barely see this in the screenshot at the top of this thread). Could this be some sort of incompatibility with UTX?

In any case, it's not too ugly and I might just have to live with it.

I have always had UTX installed while using MSE scenery and never seen this problem

Hi there...

I don't have GEX installed for this area so i can't directly check if that is the problem or not... but those screenshots are confirmed as being just south of KHUA? Please confirm, and shoot me a forum PM so I can follow this up for you. I can check it out on my PC at home (where Alabama is installed) and see if I get the same thing.

Does it disappear if you disable GEX entirely?

Can't disable GEX - you would have to restore fsx original textures in the GEX gui and then check to see if it helps.
