February 28, 201313 yr The sad thing is, many type 2 people will spend well over $5,000 and still not manage to get the performance that a type1 person can acheive with less then $1,000. That said, if you have got the money, you may as well enjoy it... Paul Smith.
February 28, 201313 yr Agreed: My system was 1.000 to 1.100 USD, depending on whether you include the price of the OS or not. I'm fine with FSX and all my addons running on that platform. Now imagine, you DO have the extra 4.000 USD: What would you spend them on - peripherals, rw flight instructor lessons, simulator lessons, a holiday on the beach of St. Maarten or the like? Spent that way, I'd get more joy out of my money than just owning a 5.000 USD rig ... What happened to AVSIM
February 28, 201313 yr and what would you change to make it even better? You seem to have chosen only the best of the best so not much to improve here, I think. Wat you COULD do however is wait a (hopefully) short while until the new nVidia Titan cards are released: that may save you some money on that GTX680. Intel will be releasing new CPU's later this year, but that's always the problem with new hardware: when you wait for the next best thing you will never buy something new. BTW Be prepared to still tweak FSX to get good performance. ^_^
February 28, 201313 yr It's been said in this thread before: The later you buy your hardware, the lower the price will be. Just wait for the release of your favourite aircraft and see whether you need any new system at all ... What happened to AVSIM
February 28, 201313 yr It would be ironic to get a new setup on the premise that the release of a single aircraft will be heavy on frames, only then to find it's actually lighter than the NGX. Even if it is heavier on frames than the NGX, it would be nothing that you couldn't claw back by dropping one or two sliders a tad in FSX. March 1, 201313 yr In fairness to the OP, between 1995 and 2005, I used to end up spending ~£1500 on a new setup every second or third year, and it was always triggered by a £50 game that just didn't run well on my old kit. Paul Smith.
March 2, 201313 yr Even if it is heavier on frames than the NGX, it would be nothing that you couldn't claw back by dropping one or two sliders a tad in FSX. I never understood people who care more for getting more trees on the ground than frames in the virtual cockpit. I mean the scenery can look somewhat nice, but to me the aircraft deserves all the performance and quality - that's the way I compromise. Not sure if I'm the only one that's not a fan of FSX' 3D hexagon buildings all over the place  - Luke Pabari
March 2, 201313 yr www.cyberpowerpc.com You can specify anything you want them to build (they use standard parts currently available on the open market ... from NewEgg ... as an example) and it comes with a three year warranty and lifetime technical support. I built my machine three years ago and it was a nice achievement ... (am still using it) ... but when things went haywire ... I, me, myself and I, was technical support ... figuring out the memory voltages and timing was the solution to the problem (in hindsight an easy fix) but still it took time I wouldn't have needed to spend as the correct settings would have been performed by professionals. You can really tell them to include anything you can imagine ... overclocking, water cooling, a slew of HDD SSD options, dual video cards, SLI, you name it ... you can even get it without an OS if you already have a Win7 disk laying around that can still be activated. In summary, they build the same machine that I could build from parts ordered from NewEgg ... for less money AND I get technical support. For me it is a no brainer ... you may have a different perspective on things.
March 4, 201313 yr Fernandobs If you wait till May-June time frame the new Intel chip HASWELL will be out. Also there is a new Geforce card out called the Titan, they are a bit pricey thou. But what you have is a great setup, not sure how that i7 3970 will preform over a i7 3770k you could save $$ and go with that chip. I been their when I put my FSX rig together back in the summer 2011 I went with a i7 980x instead of the i7 2600k / i7 2700k. If I had to do it all over I would've went with the i7 2600k because the higher OC you can get from it over the i7 980x. Just my 2 cents.
