Also since Airbus has ditched the Lithium batteries it looks like that they shouldn't run into the same problem that the 787 had.

I am not sure they have ditched the Lithium batteries for the production configuration machines.  Or have they?

A320 does have a HUD as an option, but it's clunky as heck and takes up a lot of space right in front of the pilots.

Regards,

Ró.

Well you learn something new every day, but our 737 pilots adore the HUD and one pilot in particular can't speak highly enough (look up his blog named jethead).

Apparently the flight test aircraft are still equipped with Lithium-Ion, but the production aircraft to be delivered in 2014 will have Cadmium-Nickel batteries.

Look here this article frrom Flightglobal:

and the "official" Airbus statement:

According this more recent french article, they will eventually  come back to Lithium-Ion later for a "second-generation" A350 :

Thanks guys (Guy and Alex)

That's what I had in mind (doing most of the testing with Lithium-Ion but starting production with Cad Nickel and finally - or possibly - reverting to Lithium-Ion at a later stage) but I couldn't find the source again.

Their flight test/qualification program is so tight they can't afford to risk a delay because of batteries.

Rgds,

The president of Airbus fabrice Brégier has confirmed officially during the Paris airshow now that they plan to revert to Lithium-ion batteries at a later stage.
As for the test aircraft, the first four will have LITHIUM batteries and the fifth CADMIUM-nickel .
