February 27, 201313 yr Hi, I'm heading into the final months of a degree in game design and have proposed an ATC Sim for Tablets as my final project. My lectureres are not very familiar with the flightsim genre of gaming and are unsure of the existance of enough enthusiasts to generate demand for such a sim and therefore doubt the project has merit. I understand their concerns, it is after all a degree in "Game" design and sims by their very nature tend to be more realism based. They are however open to convincing, and this is where you come in to play. I would VERY much appreciate if you would take this short (5 question survey) http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/G5NJN38 If I get enough responses I can go to them with some evidence of a community that would be responsive to this project and also the balance required between gaming and realism. If I get the go ahead, I will release the finished project to the community in about six months. If I don't get the go ahead, I will hopefully develop it anyway, but at a later date. February 27, 201313 yr Author If this goes ahead, it will be a learning experience for me so I intend to distrubute my completed project as a free APP. If it is received well.... well maybe I might look at developing it further. But for the moment it is a college project, and will be free.

With what you're proposing, you'll spend more time dealing with the realism and researching and implementing all the ATC rules, vs the creative aspect or the rest of the game design aspect, Out of curiosity, since you mentioned it was free, how important is it TO YOU that there's demand for it?

You make a valid point regarding realism versus the creative aspect. However, the reasoning behind the survey is not only to find out if there is an interest but also to get opinion regarding the balance between realism and game-play such as career mode, arcade mode etc. I accept your point that it may not be the most creative of genre but at the end of the day it is a game, no matter how "real" you make it. We were advised that it is often good to design for a niche market and also to propose something that you are personally interested in - as you will spend six months living with it. That is where my proposal came from, With regard to demand, my goal was simply to show the college that there is a community out there interested in this type of game, and that my proposal isn't completely off the wall.
