February 27, 201313 yr Why can't I make FSX Gold run in my new Win8 64 bit Pro rig? I never had CTDs in win7, then migrated to win8 and DCS World, FlightGear2.10 and even the 7yo SilentWIngs run perfectly there. Last weekend I tried to install and run FSX Gold (from GFWL) but, even after applying Word Not Allowed's tweaks, FSUIPC latest version, FSX gave me a crash on each session, allways with the same "the program has stopped working..." I eventually gave up, but I would like to ear from someone with experience on this sort of problem... Ah! FSX was installed into a non-system folder (under C:\SimDir\ in my case)... Thx in advance for any suggestions Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
February 27, 201313 yr No idea Jcomm, here I have my FSX working rock solid under Win8 64Bit Pro! Hope somebody can help you with this! Alexis Mefano
February 27, 201313 yr Author No idea Jcomm, here I have my FSX working rock solid under Win8 64Bit Pro! Hope somebody can help you with this! And, did you do any changes to the FSX.CFG ? Are you using any other tweak, like including a Vista DLL in the main folder? February 27, 201313 yr Author Conflicts with Xplane, Flight, DCS, Flight gear and or Asteroids? yeah.... surely ;-) .... But was really willing to test a very interesting product :-( Well.... February 27, 201313 yr Yes, I always use the UIAutomation.dll from Vista inside the FSX folder to prevent crashes. Other than that, just regular FSX.CFG tweaks, Like [bUFFERPOOLS] Poolsize=0 [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=14 Alexis Mefano
February 27, 201313 yr Author Hmmm, ok, maybe I got the wrong file " UIAutomation.dll" (?) Can you provide me a link to the right one ? February 27, 201313 yr Author Can you run vanilla FSX Gold with no issues? i.e. not addons Nope, tried everything - default FSX.CFG, then with FSUIPC, then with Word Not Allowed's tweaks... I never had a CTD in Win7, and I am not willing to revert back to win7 since DCS World and FlightGear as well as SilentWings are running great in win8... But I really would like to find out why this started happening with win8 :-/ I had the CTD before and after installing anything. The only add-ons I have are RealAir's Duke, A2A's p51d, and the commercial product I was beta testing .... February 27, 201313 yr If there is one, what details does the error window say? Also not sure if Win8 has a rebuild feature like this?
February 27, 201313 yr Author Also not sure if Win8 has a rebuild feature like this? It has, but I'm not sure it has anything to do with it :-/ Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
February 27, 201313 yr The proper version is located in Word Not Allowed's Guide plus in PaulJ's Software and Hardware Guide pinned at the top of the FSX Forum. February 27, 201313 yr It has, but I'm not sure it has anything to do with it :-/ Check Windows 8 event viewer, it's more or less the same as Windows 7 event viewer ... there should be information in it regarding the CTD.
February 27, 201313 yr Author Ok, thank you all for your hints... I'll have to keep trying to find out what exactly went wrong...
