737 NGX Cockpit poster set.

Featured Replies

Just purchased the PMDG 737 NGX. Compared to other sims this is the best I have ever used.

However, my knowledge of the cockpit layout and switches is not very good, the manual etc that come with the disk do not show this. Or if it does I cannot find it.

I have started to learn how to set up the CDU and other instruments as per manual. I get to the page59/60 EFIS setup, and ISFD, it mentions range knobs TFC buttons and so on.

The manual is not that clear and I need a large cockpit layout poster, I understand there are a set of three PMDG posters that can be bought from the US (precision manuals). Problem is I live in the UK. My flightstore supplier sells them but because of some dispute over copywrite they are unable to get them at present. Does anyone know how I can get a set without paying a fortune. Or is there an alternative set I can get.

While unfortunately I don't have an answer for you, I just checked myself what the shipping costs are to The Netherlands. You weren't kidding about paying a fortune to have those posters shipped; over 150 US dollars for a 25 dollar product is what I'd call exorbitant -- or ridiculous, if you like. At that rate, it doesn't make much sense to offer the poster set up for sale internationally at all. Did you contact PMDG to ask them if they might consider alternative shipping options? Good luck!

i was totally lost in the NGX when i first bought it.I suggest you do the tutorial flights.

but what REALLY helped me to get to grips with all the swithes n knobs, was FS2crew...

Its just amazing it really is...for around the same price as some skanky posters that you can only look at...

FS2crew will help you 10fold to learn the cockpit layout.

Ummmm, Hi Flybinight, can you use your name in posts, much easier to talk....

I saw somewhere in the US a service where a person living outside the USA could purchase an item over the web in the US, get it delivered to this place and then they trans-ship it to your address overseas...for a more reasonable price. I can't recall where I saw this place.

Try this place, though still in the US..http://www.avtrainingsolutions.com/products

This place is closer....Have a look at this place? http://www.afeonline.com/shop/product_info.php?cPath=304&products_id=1743 Maybe too expensive?

It seems you can find any number of 'cockpit posters', but the actual training posters a bit more difficult to find as well as more expensive.

Hi Luke, How do FS2crew help? I thought your loyal offsider did it for you. Do you watch what they do?

Buy the 737NG Audio Ground School

http://www.fs2crew.c...ows{47}PC).html

It comes with a built-in cockpit diagram. It is not printable, but you can use it to follow along with the ground school while a real 737NG captain explains every detail of the cockpit and systems.

You can watch the knobs switching as the FO goes through his checklists yes.

It helps in many ways, hard to give 1 reason.

The FO calling out the checklists from pre-flight to shutdown just helps bind everything together. If the FO calls for something your not sure of, a quick search of the manual will give you a little pic if the switch in question so you know what your looking for.

Eventualy, doing it like this you learn every switch. If you respond that something is on thinking you did turn it on,but its off, the FO will ask you to double check it - so you know you buggered up! FS2crew just makes the maze of switches n knobs enjoyfull to learn rather than some dry boeing manual.

Its more procedure based rather than the systems of the plane. So if you want someone in the cockpit to call ''10,000ft'',and then switch the the engine ignition from continous to off,put the gear in the off position, turn the auto brake off, switch the landing lights off and release the passengers (learnt that from watchin my FO do it :P ) then it very good in that sence.

Anything the FO does he says aloud in his checklist, so you learn the flow this way too.

A good example of how i learnt the packs system out for starting the engines was to tell my FO to start engine 1 with the pack switches in view. I watched him do it a few times and can now do it myself by memory.

The list goes on..

Most helpfull and enjoyfull addon ive ever bought, next to the NGX. :)

I use the vioce version and the added imersion factor it brings is awesome.

This is a freebie that can be downloaded from the AVSIM library ... I put it together quickly for people just like you to get a quick feel for the cockpit and bringing it from Cold and Dark to Cold and Dark. It isn't a high dollar production (the images are external to the document ... I did this for efficiency)

PMDG 737NGX Cold and Dark to Cold and Dark.

Also, if you own Electronic Flight Bag I just finished transcribing these steps into the EFB Checklist option ... you can request a copy at PMGG737NGXCDtoCD AT gmail DOT com.

That said, this thread has piqued my interest in FS2Crew ... going to have to check that out.

Yeah Charles, I agree. I thought the site was only for flight deck assistance. When I looked at their site, I also found other titles they do, including the 737 NG Audio Ground School, which appears to offer very detailed training for lights, switches and systems of the 737NG. Apparently, you cant print anything out. The two reviews and that from Robert seem to say its great value. Also, thank you for the link you provided at the AVSIM Library.

Top effort Charles. The 737NG overhead is a very difficult to find some of the switches when trying to find your way around in the virtual cockpit. Your cold and dark production goes a long way to helping.

By chance, I happened upon this 737-800 poster set by Avsoft, sold by Belgian on-line retailer SimWare: http://www.simw.com/...r-b737-800.html. More info from Avsoft itself here: http://www.avsoft.com/index.php?q=node/149. I can't vouch for the product's quality or accuracy, but you might want to give them a try. For sure, the shipping costs to the UK will be a whole lot less than $150! Good luck.

Hi Everyone

Many thanks for all your answers and suggestions. I already had FS2Crew button & voice but never got to use it, I have now downloaded the audio version as well. This will give me something to get stuck into. I have a three 24" hd screen set up and will be able to view the FS2crew as well as the FSX together. When using FSX I switch to the Eyefinity setting, it's awesome.

I wrote to PMDG, evidently Boeing will not allow them under their current licence agreement to distribute them through any other source than their current set up in the E-commerce store.

Again , many thanks for all replies.....Mike Marsh

Mike, as mentioned in a PM, I have the original PMDG posters unused in the original tube, I can ship to UK, send me a PM with your e-mail and I can send pics and quote you a price :)

Cheers,
