March 13, 201313 yr It was just recently that I noticed yet another detail in DCS's FDM that is simply astonishing. Actually, any flightsim worth that designation should model this... On the p51d, which you're assured does not have hydraulic flight controls, set a strong wind from 12 o'clock, on the rw, stopped, and move your trims, for instance your aileron trim. You will see your column moving according to what you set. Is this because the sim poorly simulates triming a control surface by moving the corresponding control (yes this sometimes happens in RL, but that's not the case with a p51d...)? Now, set the same situation but with no wind, or very faint wind, and observe that while you can use full aileron trim your control remains still! Why? Exactly, because in DCS the trim tabs actually apply a force on the control surfaces when there is wind flowing over them! Well, like this one, there are a myriad of little details that make this sim so special... Engine management under different weather / flight scenarios, including the presence of moist air vs dry air, temperature, relative wind, etc... are additional aspects modeled in DCS World that I couldn't find in any other sim. March 13, 201313 yr Impressive! Yes, I agree, DCS world is rapidly becoming my favorite flight sim. Like you, ive been jumping around between FSX, P3d, X-Plane 10, Flight Gear, Aerofly etc.. But DCS P51, A10 & BS give me the best feeling of flight with very acurate Flight dynamics. DCS also has a bright future with lots of 3rd party stuff coming. Although I'm not always into the air combat stuff, its a fun way to practice your flying skills and being able to not only fly the P51, but also fly it in combat as it was ment to be flown, is quite fun! My only complaint is the scenery area is a little limited and the new EDGE scenery can not come fast enough for me. Im also egerly awaiting the DCS Huey, since thats the only DSC aircraft I can actually say ive flown in real life, so Im looking forward to seeing what they do with it. Rob

Rob Rob, and I am eagerly waiting to get your feedback because I know it comes from someone who knows, for real, what it is to be at the controls of such an helicopter! I believe it will be available soon - I hope so!!!! Just out of curiosity... and to get prepared to what I will find in the DCS UH-1H, since I believe it will behave rather differently from the ka-50 with it's co-axial counter-rotating rotors... When applying collective, say during takeoff, is there a noticeable need to input anti-torque, or does the tail rotor do much of the job even during those rather "energetic" phases of flight ? I only got the controls of an R-44 and a SW300 a few years ago, and one of the things (because I already used simulators by then) that surprised me was that a lot less anti-torque than I was expecting to use was indeed required for instance during a stationary (?) Another feature that is really calling my attention is that, apparently, it will be possible to share the cokpit, or at least occupy different positions :-) Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
March 14, 201313 yr What is the new Edge scenery for DCS you mentioned please? Wayne http://fs2crew.com/banners/Banner_FS2Crew_MJC_Supporter.png Wayne HART
March 14, 201313 yr It's Nevada scenery for Redflag trainings. I was so unhappy when I saw they are making p51 for DCS, I even said I never gonna buy it. Of course, I bought it first day, and it's, no doubt, the best aircraft I ever bought. My p51 has never seen a combat, I just fly it for fun and training. I think every modern fighter pilot should have the chance to do some of the trainning on such a powerful and remarkable machine! Basic trainning these days at the Portuguese Airforce starts in the Epsilon. Before, not too long ago, it was the Chipmunk! Not a lot, but just enough to keep her pointing straight. The huey has a somewhat lumbering, heavy feel to it compared to a Robinson. Very predicable behavior which made it a pleasure to fly. Incidentally, there is a great repaint of Bob Hover's P-51 on DCS user files section. I think it on Lock-on files site too. There is also a pylon course mission, I haven't tried yet. March 15, 201313 yr Author Great screens Rob! I'll try to get that Bob Hoover's paintwork! And that UH-1H !!!! March 15, 201313 yr I've also noticed with DCS that it actually reprograms your joystick ,to make it easier to fly helicopters like the KA 50. I would like if they had more scenery and more situations for civilian type flying, but after all it is a combat sim. Ron Ron Service .
March 15, 201313 yr If DCS could build a scenery engine that could model the world and someone brought out a GA add on then that's it, it would rule the flight sim world as the dynamics are spot on!

March 15, 201313 yr I think they should make the weather editor, and live weather feature first, in order to give us some tool to set weather how we want. That dynamic weather option with pressure systems looks interesting, but I found it's more or less - useless. That dynamic weather option with pressure systems looks interesting, but I found it's more or less - useless. I'm with you too on this one... Although I have finally been able to fly with turbulence, and even find their turb model rather well done, it would be great to have many more variables available for editing / creating weather scenarios. RWW would be also a great addition, and the possibility to set the exact date, which is broken right now :-( Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
