The race in 2014 will take the northern route. After Ophir it will go through Cripple, Ruby, Galena, and Nulato before joining again at Kaltag.  Bush pilots play a huge role in making this event happen. Getting all the supplies, volunteers, veterinarians, and press staged at all 24 remote checkpoints takes an airforce of Cubs, Maules, Cessnas, (SkyVans), etc. Many, many volunteered flying hours are given.  

If you go to the Iditarod web site you will see where you can lay down $35 to become an Iditarod Insider.  This will get you the pay-per-view as well as a GPS tracker to follow individual teams from Anchorage to Nome.  I buy it every year.  There is no TV coverage outside Alaska, but they have over a million Insider subscribers like me who are looking forward to March 1st, 2014.  

oh i still remember last year...so much fun! Anyone doing this year? Its starting in 7 hours :smile:
