Re-installing the MD11

Featured Replies

Should I un-install the MD11 first prior to re-installing?  I have the NGX also installed and wanted to make sure that uninstalling the MD11 doesn't cause any issues with any shared files.

Thanks,  Bruce.

Bruce, I had to reinstall the MD-11 and it's incredibly simple. Just uninstall and reinstall. You'll need your auth code of course but I had no hiccups.

Edit: I have both the PMDG 747 and NGX and no issues with either of them when reinstalling the MD-11. PMDG is pretty professional about the way they set things up.

Hi Bruce

I read in your other post that you are using O8 , i really cant help you with O8  i only have O7 ,

But from my experience having the NGX and the MD-11 did cause me problems it looks Like when i have only one of them every thing runs smooth , but with both installed i had a Few problems , Since I just got the MD-11 and i am so pleased with it , I decided to uninstall the NGX and fly the MD-11

If i get tired from the MD-11 ( i dont think this will happen )  i will go back to the NGX )

I also Found that the NGX causes more problems when flying Online and running other Third party APPS

Like EFB and rex and so on , for some Add reason  the NGX demands more from my PC on the other hand the MD-11 runs so smooth with me

Hop this helps

NOT this may not be the case for you i am only sharing what has happened with me , as you see Fatback has all three PMDGS Installed and no problems .

Thanks, Firas, much appreciated. I got the MD11 un-installed and re-installed last night and now it works OK- my concern was more that I might break something connected to the NGX (which I dearly love and would opt for if I could only have it or the MD11), and while I still have to check the NGX, I don;t anticipate any issues.

Thanks, Bruce.

Your nav data will be out of date because the MD-11 installer will replace the files with the cycle it was released with, so keep your nav data installers and re-run them after the install.

Kyle, I was thinking that too when I reinstalled the MD11X. I already had the NGX with more up-to-date AIRAC navdata. There is an option when installing the MD11X to do so with or without NAVDATA install...

I opted not to install the navdata and have the same AIRAC data as in the NGX...

Right - good call.  I've never actually gone in and messed with the Custom Install options, though I've noted they're there.  Good to know!

I just re-imaged my sim rig and installed in the order they were released, and then dumped all the new data in, so it wasn't too much of a concern for me I guess.

True... the way it should be done, but I was too impatient to get the NGX running... Then I found out that the MD11X DVD cannot be imaged and installed via an emulated DVD drive, or even over a network from a physical DVD drive shared from another PC... so that delayed my reinstall, as I didn't have a free DVD drive with SATA lying around...

Whatever one might say, I found that necessity a little old-fashioned these days... and a little annoying, since I have a valid install keycode... whatever...

Needless to say, the old three-holer is back in the air, after I managed to find the time to fly her yesterday afternoon...
