GPU USAGE: Within FSX?

Hi guys,

Just been in the NGX with a photoreal England + Treescapes to test the gpu,

Is it normal for it to use 50%? Anyway to increase it?

I am a little bit of a frame rate junky, and even in FSX my scenery settings are not maxxed out..

Could I put these up without effecting performance? Do I have room to put the settings up, and if so, will I see GPU usage increase?

GPU usage is not necessarily a "good" thing...

Be happy that you are not stressing your GPU..

Increasing settings in FSX will stress your CPU, memory, motherboard, and GPU, all at once..

Somewhere there is a bottleneck - most often the CPU.

Bert

Only certain sceneries are designed to actually utilize GPU horsepower. FSDreamTeam and Flightbeam airports are both designed in a way to offload alot of work to the GPU.

For most other scenarios, the only "work" that the GPU will be doing is to Anti Alias the image and keep textures crisp with Antistropic filtering.

Never seen over 45% with 1900 X 1200 resolution. No matter what the AA or IQ. I suppose 5720 resolution would change that but Ive asked other to show that scenario and havnt receieved a response! Same with GPU memory usage because I've never seen over 6 or 700 MB usage out of 2g!

Is it normal for it to use 50%? Anyway to increase it?

Sure, consider XPlane 10.10 64-bit.  This software, I've read, was designed to offload more to the GPU.  Also, look for P3D to do a better job than FSX which while still the best show in town, will increasingly show its age.

It would be cool to hear from an XP user to see what sort of GPU usage is seen in that sim.

The question is for FSX unless my eyes are getting worse than I thought.

Hi

A screen 5000ft bad wheather

So where is the Memory usage and GPU % usage? What resolution?

W, your eyes might work fine, but your perception of what's relevant appears compromised.  Please don't tell me I shouldn't post responses that absolutely relate to the question at hand.  Next time, if you feel compelled to police the discussion I'm a part of, report my comment to the moderator.

Gpu usage in the top about 85% memory usage i dont mesure on that screenshot , but normal 700-1gb as with the 680.

I run 5040x1650 the reason for the change to a Titan was the poor performance with 670 and 680 in heavy clouds with this and

higher resolutions, anyway the Titan solved my problems

Kind Regards Hasse

I run 5040x1650

Thats what I have been looking for! Thank you Hasse! Big resolution big mem/GPU usage. So, even at 5760 resolution FSX still only using max of 1gb with 6 gb available? My questions always been, why pay for all that memory if FSX only uses a fraction of it? For FSX alone anyways.  I understand the Titans performance, probably because of shader clocks and GPU speed.

There is still some common sense in this world!

The relevance IS. The question was for the use of FSX. Thank you so very kindly. BTW Im not a run to mod type person!
