Flight Simulator X performance and .CFG tweaks?

Featured Replies

First off, please don't tell me I need to use another Flight Sim or anything else, just read the WHOLE question :-) Thanks!

I am designing a custom-built PC for FSX and currently have the following:

ASUSTeK ASUS COMPUTER P8P67 Pro MotherBoard
GeForce GT520 (FSX relies mostly on CPU)
466GB Seagate ST350041 8AS SCSI Disk Device (ATA)
HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH60N SCSI CdRom Device
Realtek High Definition Audio
4.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 535MHz (7-7-7-20)
Windows 8 PRO
Diablotek DA Series PSDA600 600W ATX12V v2.2 Power Supply
Intel i5 2500K
Computer Case

Does Win7 Home Premium or Ultimate work better for FSX than Windows 8? I used to play FSX on my old PC and it worked fine on Win7 but DOES NOT work on Win8 ?!

I will try to overclock to 4.8gHz, but what .CFG tweaks do I need to get the best out of my PC?

I only use this PC for FSX as a training tool; I need it to be realistic as possible with an outstanding framerate. I am using it as a training tool for my Private Pilot's license when outside of flying the Cessna 150 and to train for my Private Pilot's license, when I leave next year to a study-abroad program to Germany for a year, my junior year in high-school. Please help and best of luck to all the pilots looking at this forum; I posted it in aviation, since I know many pilots who play on FSX. (:

I did read the whole post and you are still in the wrong forum if you are looking for FSX.

This is an automatic message.

This topic has been moved from "The Microsoft Flight Forum" to "MS FSX Forum". This move has been done for a number of possible reasons.

  • The topic could have been moved because we deemed it to be more appropriately placed elsewhere.
Please ensure that your posts are "on topic" and contain illustrative images or videos as appropriate. Do not post videos or images just for entertainment purposes anywhere but in the screen shot or video forums.

FSX will work on Windows 8.  Some individuals are having issues and you might want to check out our Windows 8 Forum where these issues are being discussed.

For fine-tuning and setting up your computer and FSX, I would highly recommend the AVSIM Software and Hardware Guide pinned at the top of the FSX forum (this forum).  If you have questions after that, then ask them here but I think you'll find the guide to be complete and an answer to most of your questions.  Just remember not all tweaks work on every computer system so make sure you understand a tweak before using it in your FSX.cfg.  You could start seeing crashes and wondering why.

Good luck!

Best regards,

Jim
