Flightzone KPDX in FSX?

Featured Replies

Hello. I'm wondering, has anyone successfully installed and patched Flightzone's KPDX in FSX? I do see the website that includes the "patch" to make it work along with the instructions on how to do it. But I can't find more than a couple posts where someone has reported it actually working. Are there any issues? Crashes? Other than the steps from this website(http://flyawaysimulation.com/downloads/files/8758/fsx-flightzone02-portland-scenery-patch/), anything else to watch out for or be aware of?

Thank you,

Kevin

I did the conversion a while back but to be honest it wasn't really worth it since it doesn't end up perfect. There are some transparency issues which I was able to solve by converting some of the airport object models thru ModelConverterX and changing the transparency values and also converting them to FSX models. There are also some issue with the ground polys showing some bleed through when taxiing which was really annoying and that is due to the FS9 ground polys being for a flat earth model while FSX is designed with a round world model. The ground polys might be fixable using ModelConverterX but I don't know how to do it. Of course you could always just turn off the custom ground polys and just use default FSX or REX ground textures and tweak the AFCAD to match up with the model placements, but that takes away a lot of the beauty of the airport by not having custom ground.

In short, after putting in a few days work with converting models, fixing transparency issue and other little niggles, I ended up just trashing the whole thing as it just wasn't worth the time and effort for the results I was getting and still not having it look and work the way I really wanted.

I'll just wait for a 3rd party developer to tackle this airport at some point and buy their version. Too bad Vauchez the developer of this awesome airport quit developing content as his work was really awesome for FS9.

It's freeware over at Orbx/FTX.... (for FSX).

That patch website is not really a proper job. Sean's summary above is correct. It is almost possible. We were both tinkering about 18 mths back with model conversions and got the transparency issues 90% right. Unfortunately the changes made to the models mean it can only be for personal use and never be distributed.

It is only the city.  I could have sworn I had a payware version.  Sorry for the confusion.
