AOTD for 4/19/13 - Bare Essentials

Featured Replies

I expected to see a repeat AOTD today, but surprise, surprise.  This is a new one. While I have no idea what a "freddybear" is, I'm gonna collect this cache.

Enjoy.

The description says "North of Kodiak".  Don't believe it. I would recommend that you look at the internet offerings on this.

Thank you.

Rick

I am tellin' you whaaaat!  LOL

There are TWO Bare Islands.  I happened to bite on the wild goose chase of Bare Island, Sitka.

(Yeah... it kinda feels like that --> )  (AND like dis :p0816: )

Did you know that you can make it with only 10% fuel left in da gas tank from Kodiak to Bare Island, Sitka?

That was waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy tooo long of a flight!

Well now you know. B)

DO NOT go to Bare Island, Sitka... you will be going waaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy outta your way!   But, if you do... good flight time of about a little over an hour or so in the P-51 (Red Tails for me)

Indeed the location and description is confusing. Looks like it is an useraerocache submitted from a child?<br />There are at least 2 Island with this name in Alaska. And i don`t know either what a freddybear is...

Not much here. On final for Port Lions and parked for the night.

Steve

I have been enjoying my flights in Alaska, although this is the first time in all the years that I have been playing FS that I visit there. But, this Winter snow thing can get monotonous. I don't understand why anybody would live in cold climates (I grew up in New Jersey - 8 feet of snow every Winter! ) when Tahiti is only a short flight away.

So, I am glad to see greenery make its appearance in Flight:

Kodiak seems to be clear of snow. But, the hills behind the town are still blanketed in white.

Interesting how the developers have modulated the seasons so that the snow disappears slowly and not all at once as in previous versions of FS (or at least I assume it was that way since I did not routinely fly in temperate climates.)

Back to Kodiak for a landing after visiting Bare Island.

And parked at the apron. No, I don't need those stairs to get in the Cub.

I've been spending a lot of time in Alaska recently and like the same. The devs put a lot of work into little touches to increase the realism. If only we'd had enough time to praise them for it while they were at MS... :(
