Majestic Software Q400 Status Update

Featured Replies

Thanks Ray - I'm going to try that now.

:(  Nope ..... made the change but didn't work for me.    Sound went off after 13 minutes (with FSX ATC in use); just like normal.

Great if this works for some;   but it's definitely not a full fix.    Worth trying though!

Hi, DC-6...

Sorry to hear that it didn't help your situation.

Good luck in your quest.... computers are complex beasts, for sure!

All best,

Did you shut down and restart after changing the setting? If it affects direct communication with the sound hardware, that might require a level of reinitialization that will only occur during a full power-off-on cycle.

OK sorry, have to confirm on my end as well that unchecking Exclusive Mode on the primary audio device did not make a difference.

Yes, I did shut down mate, but no good.

Maybe this idea works on Win 8, or for some demographic, but sadly not on my Win 7 set up.

I am running win 7, and have no sound issue when using fsx atc.  Sorry you guys are having problems, but it isn't across the board

flightwatch: 32-bit or 64-bit? What are you using as your sound chip/card?

DC6_flyer, yes, I'm on Win8, same issue (though who knows whether same cause!).

I think we'll have to leave it to the developers to dig into; the issue goes far beyond my expertise in terms of possible sources, or solutions, at this point.

Yes it is being worked on.  We have somewhat narrowed it down to a Win 8 issue that Microsoft has not addressed.  Although there are some Win7 users experiencing the same issue.

We are however looking into a work around.

Thanks for your patience.

Thank everyone at Majestic for their diligence on this, and all the active support you've been providing us, Simeon; this is REALLY an add-on not to be missed! :Applause:

64bit.  It's just the built in sound card running Realtek high def audio and Dolby home theater v4.

Matt L.

I've also been trying several settings to track the problem, including the exclusive mode, but nothing has made a difference so far.

I've even replaced the windows 8 dsound.dll with an earlier windows 7 version but that also had no impact.

I've found that disabling and enabling the speaker device makes the problem happen immediately. Only the Prepar3d generated sounds like AI traffic are restored after enabling but the Q400 remains silent much like the bug that occurs after 12 minutes.

A workaround for the "Sound Bug" that works for a lot of people:-

Hi guys, this has been shared on the MJC forum but in case there are people here that aren't  on that forum;

There have been a few suggested workarounds for the sound bug (sound going off after approx 10-15mins), but none had worked for me.....

.... but this one did!

Start FSX and load the Q400 at your airport of choice, with correct fuel, weather, etc, and then create/load your flight plan.   Now launch that flight, and once it's loaded, save the flight (not as the default, just give it any name).

Now exit FSX, and restart it...   make sure your 'default flight' is not using the Q400. (I recommend the standard default flight; so the trike).   It doesn't really matter because we're going to load the Q400 flight that we saved about straight way, anyway.

Now simply hit the 'Load' button and load the Q400 flight that you saved earlier.

You will have your Q400, at your airport of choice, with your flight plan loaded, and yes, you can use ATC.

For me, and many others, the sound bug will not occur, as long as you;-

  • Set up your Q400 flight, including creating/loading your flight plan
  • Save the flight
  • Exit & restart FSX
  • Load the above saved flight

It's a little bit of a hassle but it's worth it to be able to fly the Q400 with ATC and Flight Plans, and not lose the sound after 10 mins.

I am on Win 7 64bit.

Cheers.
