AOTD for 4/28/13 - Nature's Crossroads

Featured Replies

Neat.  I've seen this in my ramblings about looking for waterfalls. Interesting that it would eventually be an AOTD.

Enjoy the hunt.

Thank you.

I had no idea where this is, except somewhere on the East coast of Kauai. Since I was parked at Princeville. I decided to check the Job Board in case there was something going in that direction.

A Sightseeing Flight! It's been a long time since I did one of those and on such a small island, I should be able to fit the Aerocache in while showing my passenger the sights.

Wouldn't you know it? The first Landmark was somewhere over towards the East, so I headed that way crossing the mountains.

Talk about lucky! I flew over the Aerocache without even realizing it.

The first Landmark was the lighthouse at Lihue Point, just below the airport. Then, I was sent all the way back to the Na Pali coast, so once again I flew direct over the mountains.

That was just when Little Miss Pipi, my passenger, decided she needed to get down in a hurry or she would make a mess in my pretty Stearman. Desperately, I dived towards Princeville and was just about to touch down when she gave me a last warning! Fortunately, I rolled to a stop and she got out and did it by the side of the runway.

Just for revenge, I gave her a couple of rolls when we got back in the air.

The fabulous Na Pali coast.

But, I was glad to turn back to Princeville so I could dump my passenger and collect my fee.

A nice flight, good scenery, Aerocache, and Little Miss Pipi, could not ask for a better flight.

Best regards.

Looks like a good time Luis. It is always fun trying to find a place to land in a hurry when the lady decides she can't wait another minute. It took me a while to find this cache. I finally got the yellow flash but never did see it. Boy, a lot of green in that first shot. So back to Lihue I go.

This is the third time that I snagged an Aerocache without seeing it.

In case someone is keeping track, I didn't see it either.  I still don't know where the crossroad is!

I suppose the yellow flash is what it is like to fly into the "electronic fog" that has been reported in the Bermuda Triangle!

Blue skies & tailwinds,

This was definitely not the location I had in mind. I'm sure I saw something similar to this cache further in the valleys.

As the rest of you have said, I didn't see the cache either before it registered. After, I still did a bit of circling and found it.

Interesting. It looks like they have extended the trigger field for the caches.

Thank you.

Showing that great minds do not think alike... If the passenger had said she was going to mess up MY plane, I would have rolled the plane and said "Go ahead, make your day..." B)

Getting back on topic, I too magically found the AotD just circling about.  Then I went back to the little dirt strip and dialed in some weather, 29kts worth of wind. It's cool to see some of the effects inside the game, such as when I opened the hatch to the Icon the wind caused it to roll backwards. Shut the hatch and the rolling stopped. Landed and took off from Lihue at about a 30 degree angle to the runway and by the time I made it to Port Allen the wind was direct to the runway. Bought the shortest landing roll out I've ever had! Made a tricky taxi over to the green building and shut the Icon down, just to listen to the breeze.

Is it possible to manually set weather in Flight?!

There are a selection of weather themes you can choose from. But making specific changes to them, no.

Got it. I thought you'd been able to set the wind speed somehow.
