How long has your TrackIR lasted?

Featured Replies

I've had my TrackIR 4 for couple years now ( THANKS RON   )

I have had the intention to buy a trackclip pro pretty much since i received my TIR, but none of the finnish online stores had any in stock. I decided to put a order in for one back in january, but after 3 months without the store basically not knowing when or what would arrive, i decided to cancel... Now inspired by this thread i wanted to recheck the stores, and found 1 with couple in stock!

PUt order in ASAP and should be mailed soon enough. Reason why I haven't used trackir on every flight is the hat clip doesn't really work well for moving around in the cockpit, well atleast when i try to make a profile so that i can move closer to instruments or hard to reach switches. No problem for looking around while I dont try to get closer tho.

I do really love my TrackIR and am very thankful for Ron to gift me his old TrackIR 4  ^_^

Just got Email from the Webstore that they've received my payment and have mailed it!! Wehee, if I'm lucky and finnish post is swift, i should have it by friday.

You don't have to go to those lengths. I simply taped mine to my headset. My wife still made the noise that Mork (from Ork) made, every time she saw me. Munumunnah!

Yeah; I did try that, but when the clip is on my head(set) it's a bit too far to really reach the camera when trying to move my head up and down, i couldn't really look at the ceiling of the plane if I wanted to... With a cap its mounted a bit in front of my head (you know, how hats and caps are!!) and then it pretty much registers all the movement i do  ^_^  Anyways, TCP is incoming now so i should have these problems sorted soon !

OK, Thanks FSXMan. I was just wondering if someone who had moved from an older version to a newer version had seen any real benefits in the move because of the newer features. Sorry.

Seriously, I just used my new TrackIR 5 last night and I really don't see any difference from my old one when it was working good.

They improved the mounting a little it seems, and it also seems like the camera is larger.

The quality of my old unit was excellent and this one is excellent also.  I guess it's hard to perfect perfection.

With my setup I also had the problem of the TrackIR camera being too far away.

I bought some mini squeeze clamps from Lowes and made a mount with them that allows me to mount my TrackIR camera to the side of my Saitek switch panel at the approx. level of my TCP, so it is only about 18" from my TCP now.

Like I hoped this morning the package was in my mailbox! Nothing fancy, infact no retail box and just the clip and a quick start guide.

First impressions: I can see that this can be quite fragile and everytime I handled it with extreme caution after reading you guys' posts  :LMAO:  In flight it's very good, the tracking lasts longer and even when I have my blinds open (my pc desk sits in a corner of the room, with big windows on left and right pointed at sun from dawn till dusk) so thats great, it's so depressing to keep my blinds shut when there's sun outside

One problem though, it feels and looks like on the software window that fps doesn't always keep up with my head movement and you can feel quite a bit of stuttering after moving your head from left to right quickly. The hatclip doesn't have this problem, I could move my head basically as much as i wanted, but the trackir would stay smooth.

I'll have to do a real flight this evening to see how it performs in real use. Anyways I'm still positively impressed by it and see clear improvement to using my TIR. ^_^

The fps were the same between my small time with the hat and my use of TCP.

Yeah it seems fine now, I did realise had disabled the line in fsuipc config to run my batch file to restart aero for vsync fix... So when fps dropped to 29 it went to 20 and felt like stuttering. Fps and head movement was just fine on my VFR flight with C152. I do like the TCP and makes using trackir a lot easier when all you have to do is turn on the software + after half an hour my ears don't hurt because i have a headset on top of a hat

You haven't got the software in the correct mode then, I've just tested it and if you put the TrackIR 5.1 software in Track Clip Pro mode it actually turns the IR emitters off altogether, with a brightness setting of 0. I didn't realise it did this automatically, but for the reasons I stated earlier (about background noise from reflected radiation) it makes sense to turn it off in TCP mode.

TrackIR5 software has a glitch. If you adjust the IR's for the camera at all it will not let you go below 10 until you click the TCP button again. I have always been in the correct mode, have you tried to use the TCP in regular TC mode?

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Even though I wasn't experiencing issues with the IR's emitting at 10, they didn't need to be on. You couldn't see them with the naked eye so I never noticed till that picture.
