Looking for info on multiple PC for (FSX) set up's

Featured Replies

IN the past week and a half, I have realized that I have quite a bottleneck in performance running FSX with only scenery add-ons with my pc. GPU=650TIOC but my CPU is.. (Get ready to laugh), and amd 5600+ DC @ 2.8g. I can get 40 fps @ cruise with most things set full tilt, ( both cores of cpu running near 100% most of time ) & it gets a LOT slower on approaches..anyways.. Im really considering a new build very soon, may be a haswell build, however, how can I Utilize my current pc in addition to the new? I have heard of many people running multiple PC's for running sim's, however, I cant come up with any 'beginners guide' or even a reference list of sorts, of whats dooable with multiple pc's. I would imagine that a 2nd pc could run addons some how? Basically looking for any forums, posts, url's, or smoke signals in regards to running multiple PC's with FSX or its addons. I have many questions about this arrangement & possible capabilities & limitations, however I'll wait for those.

Thanks in advance!

As odd as my user name may be, my back always hurts! Scoliosis isn't very fun but those are the cards I was delt.

There are two ways of using multiple PC's.

1) Spread out FSX over multiple machines using FSWide, where you run several instances of FSX.  Mostly used by home cockpit builders.

2) More common is using a second PC to run all kinds of things like Activesky, FSInn, ACARS, Your Virtual Airlines program, FS Real Time, Any moving map program you may have (FS Commander?), etc.  These programs will hook into FSX either via Simconnect or via the FSUIPC module called WideFS.  You can also run all of your charts, etc on this second PC.  The idea is to remove load from the first PC so it focusses only on FSX and also gives you a visual benefit of extra screens and allows you to run FSX in full screen mode without the need to ALT-TAB to get to another program.

Hope this helps.

I have a two PC setup.

First PC runs FSX and EFB Data Provider

Second PC runs:

Plan-G

Vatsim / FSInn

EFB Display Provider

Chrome

Same her, works very, very well, it makes my main rig very stable.

In addition to the above,

WidevieW is an option to network two or more computers, each driving at least one of its own monitors. Each computer has to have its own copy of FSX (or Prepar3d), and ideally each computer should have its own copy of the same scenery addons as the other computers in the network, if you are using any scenery addons. The program costs about US$40. You can run it in preview before buying.

There are a number of videos of users showing it in their setups on Youtube.

I'm just starting to play around with the demo.

Just reading this interesting post,as I have two pc,s could I set up to use one for P3d and use the other to run my add on aircraft ,scenery etc ,and would this stop OOM issue,s,sorry to ask what you may consider a silly question ,but the subject is new to me and I find it fascinating ,thanks for reading

I don't think you can do that.  You can run gauges etc. from Project Magenta which home cockpit builders do but i don't think you can separate or break up scenery and aircraft across multiple PC's.  This is something you can research by looking at WideView and the Project Magenta forums.

Crgsim is a free program that allows you to display the main instruments and a chart on a separate computer that is networked to the computer running FSX.

Thanks for that.

I really wish more flight sim software developers would start making videos along those lines and including them in the "getting started" or how-to material they provide with their products.
