Black box when selecting aircraft in full-screen mode

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I attempted to reinstall FS9 but when I want to select an aircraft (the default Cessna for example), the box is black, there is no aircraft. I've got this problem only when I fly in the full-screen mode, in the windowed screen mode, I can see my aircraft in the box.

I tried to reset my graphic cards presets (no AA and no AF) but the problem is still here.

I've got a GeForce GTX 660 with the lastest drivers and I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bits.

I've got FSX and I can see the aircraft in the box, even in the full-screen mode ...

Any idea ?

Thank you.

Damien.

Right click on your FS9.exe and select Properties.

On the Compatibility tab add checks to "Disable visual themes" and "Disable desktop composition".

Hi,

I don't find these options in the Compatibility tab.

I also have a GTX 660 (Win7 x64) - no problems. There being no aircraft in the 'box' (I assume you mean the rotating plane in the 'Choose a Flight' screen??) could be a driver problem. I had one or two drivers in the past (though for XP) which would produce this. You say you have the latest drivers.. which? I installed the 320.00 beta and I have had no problems at all. You could try and see if that helps check it's OK for Win8 though of course) - easy to roll back if you want.

Yes, there's no rotating plane. I'll try 320.00 beta drivers.

I tried but it doesn't work.

OK, I'll think about this, but for me this problem was always driver-related...

  • Don't you think that's because I've got Windows 8 ?

I couldn't say I'm afraid, I know nothing about it. Did the 320.00 driver say it was OK for Win8?

I have the same problem got a new computer yesterday win 8 have the same problem heard it could be due the fact it in the program director and need be installed in its own directory

Hi.

What you describe can occur when FS can't find the correct air file, or possibly model folder (I'd have to experiment - my uh thingy, you know, oh yeah memory isn't what it used to be). If you've reinstalled from the original discs and then overwritten the aircraft folder with your backup, it may be that FS9 is looking for the wrong name, or looking in the wrong location.

Check that the sim=[whatever] and the model=[whatever else] sections in the aircraft config file point to the correct files and locations, then check that you haven't reinstalled to a location that FS is unable to access (see the post above - don't install to the 'Programs' directory, and make sure your ../aircraft/.. folder is in the same one as FS9.exe).

Can you still select the 'blank' planes and see & fly them when you return to the flight?

Cheers,

D

So it's nothing to do with a bad labeling of air file or model !

I have it longtime ago even with WINxp :)

I don't remember well the solution but it's graphics settings related

or even DirectX

Check also the AA settings you use and try some changes ...

I have the same problem with my Windows 8.  I have no solution other than to go to the Windows view and see the planes there.
