July 9, 201312 yr The HAF has a built in fan controller I believe. Three position switch I recall. You could control your chassis fans manually. We yearn for a better simulator engine that can better support multithreading, multicore, more ram, better graphics APIs. Perhaps the new version of P3D will indeed have a new EULA, as many suspect, and be more accommodating for us?
July 9, 201312 yr The HAF has a built in fan controller I believe. I don't think so Martin I didn't see anything about that, but I'll look again. As I say, these 200mm and 240m fans as so quiet it's totally irrelevant anyway as they spin slowly. I was able to find and install Fan Xpert 2 and it works very well though the fans still aren't recognized. This motherboard really is quite decent I'm getting more and more convinced, primarily from reviews by users and reviewers. Some of its passive cooling features are superior to those found in some other ASUS models and also had the set of features I was looking for. I know this particular CPU/mobo/ram will o'clock more no problem. I'm sure if I could cope w/ 1.35v I would be seeing 4.8 from the looks of it as I have yet to get a blue screen or a Prime95 error. VID stays at 1.304 or less at 4.3Ghz so I'm very happy w/ this as you can imagine coming from [email protected]. And truthfully, this thing is really running FSX well. As you and I have said a few more 100Mhz is what it is, a few% bump in performance. Once I get over the newness of this machine and feel like going for those few more Mhz I will, especially as we see how IB-E performs which is purported to run on X79/2011. While the former build would run FXS enough to totally enjoy, this beast pumps out smooth performance at decent frames and I'm not getting the hitches and slight hangs I would get, and tolerate w/ the old build. Nice to fly into FSDT KSFO w/ autogen at 100% and still see 24 frames and smoothness. I think in all fairness (I never ran autogen at 100% previously except to test or in low complexity areas) this build is looking more like old build x 160-170% which is a nice improvement. The SSD really moves data fast. I no longer get the slight pauses when new .wav files are called by ATC or what have you. Thanks again for your input Martin! July 10, 201312 yr Oh yes, that's right, it's an on off switch for the LED's isn't it. Not a fan controller. No issue though as you say, as your fans are quiet. If ever you did require control of those fans, there are plenty of fan controllers on the market. I have a couple of Zalman Fan Mate 2's in an old PC, work very well.
July 10, 201312 yr Have you tried BP=0 yet Noel? Load up a heavy weather scenario to test though, thats when i see a very big frame rate increase.
July 11, 201312 yr I have something amiss w/ REX E+ which I am very familiar with as I've used it since the beginning of the franchise pretty much. Anyway. fresh clean install for this on my new build. Normal install, etc. As you may know REX system was essentially down for the past week or so which I wasn't aware of until I tried but could not get a weather theme to appear when it normally would. They finally resolve the issue and I am now getting weather, but the cloud density is wall-wall clouds, and they have an artificially soft cottony edges and they all very much look the same no matter what texture, HD or not, I choose. This was an uncomplicated clean install. Yes, I have used BUFFERPOOLS=0 line for years and had excellent perf on my old rig. I think I have all parameters set correctly in FSX now. Are you using nV Inspector's vsync 1/2 monitor refresh w/ 30 FPS internal frame lock? July 11, 201312 yr Have you tried reinstalling all of your textures? Servers were down as they were fine tuning before the release of the REX updater and SP2. The release should be any time now. They said this week. Are you using nV Inspector's vsync 1/2 monitor refresh w/ 30 FPS internal frame lock? Nope. I have a Ben Q 120 Hz monitor. I have tried half refresh rate and 1/4. Didn't think much of the results to be honest. I am somewhat unconventional though, in terms of my FSX philosophy. I don't go in for high sliders, despite the fact that I have the power to accommodate them. My frame rate is locked at 50, but despite that I see no stutters. Frame rate stays high, unless I happen to be in the NGX, with heavy weather, on the ground. Then in some scenarios down around 30. I like high frame rate, and I'm quite happy with less eye candy to achieve it. My focus is in the cockpit, getting to grips with high tech avionics, rather than what's outside. Having said that, I do expect scenery to be at a level I deem acceptable.
July 11, 201312 yr Have you tried reinstalling all of your textures? I went to their forum and perused and tried running as administrator (absolutely never required in my Vista 64 install) and it seems to have solved this particular issue. I have a different issue now totally unrelated--REX E+ is interfering w/ Intellimouse function (I program the middle wheel for mouse-direction which defaults to 'shift-O') so I've asked for ideas on their forum. My frame rate is locked at 50 Locked internally or externally? Could you post your fsx.cfg? I'd like to see how your sliders are set. Thus far I'm still not sure I'm getting linear scaling for my new CPU (even w/ respect to main core0 performance) compared to Q9650. Quite frankly, I really am yearning for something that is better at exploiting modern hardware so will try XPlane 64 sometime soon. July 12, 201312 yr Oh yes, it's essential to run REX as Admin. Also, it's no good setting it to run as admin in the compatibility tab, you must right click. I do this with everything, including FSX. I also have UAC off. My frame rate in FSX is locked internally. I'll PM you my cfg. My settings are almost certainly too low for your taste, but they satisfy me. Regarding the reloading of weather every few minutes, that you spoke about on the REX forum, I get this too. REX seems to ignore my settings. Dev's did say that this issue should be fixed with the new update.
July 12, 201312 yr Great, good to know about REX update resolving this issue.
