Nice find thanks! Just applied to program(86) folders. Taking awhile but it is worth it. I cannot tell you how many times I have had issues with deleting or modifying files in the past even though I installed them. Thanks again.

Would this work to let Fsx install where it wants now and we won't have the permission problems with x86 location? I wonder if all this tweaking and stuff comes from the fact we install out of the spot MS wanted us too. Wondering if this will let us now run FSX like it wants.

Not sure Bill but I use it after any new install into fsx folder - just redo the entire folder again.

yes, now you can install into ProgramsX86. I've been using this for years, but I always got shushed when I tried to say that there really is no problem installing in the default location....

  • 2 weeks later...

I had FSX in the PFx86 location for a few years. The problems I've run into (permissions stuff) was no different than today where FSX resides on another physical drive.

This won't bypass the sandboxing that happens with the Program Files folders, but unless you're unlucky the sandbox won't normally cause trouble with FSX.

I'd personally still suggest installing FSX elsewhere, just to minimize the number of possible things that can go wrong.

My other computer is Windows 8 64

I wanted FSX to start like it does in win7; Or at least like I have it set up in win7.When I click the desktop icon I get a User Account Control Window; I went to the folder where the .exe resides and gave it “Full Control” ticking all the boxes; I don’t remember at this stage wich were ticked by default, unfortunately.Since then,I think the problems of not being able to use the “V” key started.
Still have to wait and see when I get the computer.

Would this Work in win.8?
