June 16, 201312 yr From some angles of view from the VC of my Centurion or J32 I get FPS falling to 1-5 when looking at some scenery. It seems to be in the SimHeaven areas, and does not seem to affect default planes like the King Air or the Baron. I haven't narrowed the cause down yet but is anyone else getting the same thing when looking at some scenery? i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea

Espacially the larger Phototsceneries can take a lot ofmmemory and the payware plane aren't small either. Even the simple OSM + autogen maps might trigger such a problem if your system is really limited Even a new graphiucs card with more VRAM might increase your demand for system RAM dramatically. In general I wouldn't be surprised if people run into trouble if they don't have more than 8 GB of System memory, othwerwise your system will pßrobably start to swap things out of the RAM to the hard drive. But with zoom level 17 photos even the speed of the hard drive or the VRAM might be an issue. Karsten Schubert

June 16, 201312 yr Reducing the LOD in your facade sets (*.fac files) can also be a solution: the LOD is the distance (in meters) from where you see the buildings. I'm sometimes changing the LOD of my OSM2XP sceneries depending on the version of X-Plane. Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -
June 16, 201312 yr Another (and cheap ) possibility might be to lower your rendering options. I also have 8 GB RAM and a GTX580 with 1.5 GB VRAM. Below my settings. It still might be necessary to lower here or there in extreme situations, i.e. huge sceneries and/or complex planes. My sceneries (excerpt): LPMA Madeira (XPFR), LGSR Santorini, LRBV Brasov, the city of Fürth (Germany), several libraries, ...
June 16, 201312 yr Author Thanks for the feedback guys. I guess XP addons are going to be getting more complex, not less so at some point I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get more ram anyway. Will 16gb ram and the same card (580) give a good improvement on frames? Also is there any difference between very high and extreme texture resolution? And finally Uwe what size screen are you using and what frames do you get? i910900k, RTX 3090, 32GB DDR4 RAM, AW3423DW, Ruddy girt big mug of Yorkshire Tea
June 16, 201312 yr Well, I have faced the first stuttering / shimmering situations today after installing the freeware TrueScenery for Finland. I have 16 GB RAM and a GTX 650 ti with 1GB VRAM (gddr5). I noticed two things: 1) FPS dropping to 11-12fps, sometimes less when I increased the graphics setting to try to overcome what I describe in 2) 2) The facades are shimmering constantly. It's something I have seen people complaining about but had never really got into... I have my graphics settings exactly as uwespeed above. Tried with HDR on and off, but never got rid of the shimmering facades. I believe I could get a graphics card with more VRAM, but that's far from my plans right now :-/ Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
June 16, 201312 yr Will 16gb ram and the same card (580) give a good improvement on frames? I too would like to know more about this. I'm thinking of changing to faster RAM (1600 MHZ or above) from my 8GB 1033MHZ RAM. Would it make much difference and importantly, do I just need to swap the new RAM with the old RAM on my motherboard or do I also need to change anything in the BIOS settings?

If you have a value like this, try reducing the number to 40000 or 30000. On a GNU/Linux system you can replace this number in all your facade files for your scenery using this command: grep -rl '50000.000000' ./ | xargs sed -i 's/50000.000000/40000.000000/g'2) This is sometimes because of a data quality problem in OpenStreetMap: duplicate nodes or duplicate buildings. It's very easy to remove them, but it's a lot of work. Where did you see shimmering facades ? Georges - OpenStreetMap - Ubuntu GNU/Linux -

I noticed two things: 1) FPS dropping to 11-12fps, sometimes less when I increased the graphics setting to try to overcome what I describe in 2) This sounds for me like a lack of VRAM, not of RAM. If the computer has to fall back to swap memory to the hard drive these values would be deeper, while your explanation would indicate that the VRAM is exhausted and it swaps to the system RAM, w3hcich could also cause the shimmering. But there could be other possibilites too: A driver problem or a problem with Z-buffering or as already described the well known errors in the OSM data.. What does X-Plane 10 tell you about the size of textures it loads? And do you use memory compüression? According to the other questions. The computer will recognize the changed memory, but it might be necessary to change thesettings of the RAM or make an update of the board. In many cases this RAM didn't exist, when the board was made, so it would fall back to a slow secure setting. Karsten Schubert
June 16, 201312 yr @Longranger: Here it goes. Attached is a screen taken from the Baron58. Strangely fps rose considerably (?). The shimmering is of course not visible, but plagues almost each facade... The 2nd shot shows my graphics settings. A total of about 950MB of textures is reported as being loaded. My GTX 650 Ti has 1GB GDDR5. Thx for your help!
