June 30, 201312 yr Just curious but has anyone been able to reach 40,000 feet? I was messing around the other day waiting for the AotD and took the Red Tails P-51 to 39,112 feet before I had to go do other things. I think I could have gotten higher if I spent more time at it. June 30, 201312 yr I have 39,656 feet with msFlight P-51D. I think I could have gotten higher but it becomes a real balancing act, staying just above the stall speed. Interestingly enough a real world pilot by the name of Douglas Matthews on May 23rd just set some time-to-climb records with his P-51D "The Rebel." 9,000 meters approx 30,000 feet in 18 minutes. 12,000 meters approx 40,000 feet in 31 minutes. Max altitude in level flight 40,100 feet. Max altitude achieved 42,500 feet. The numbers are still unofficial until sanctioned by the U.S. National Aeronautic Association. So, I would say that the msFlight P-51D performance numbers are pretty darn close to the real thing. Sounds like a challenge folks! Steve
June 30, 201312 yr Author Steve, I figured if anyone was close it would be you. Great job! I agree this would be a good challenge. Blue skies & tailwinds, -Alan
June 30, 201312 yr The best I've done is about 36,500 in the P51. Guess I need to see if I can do better. The thing is that it takes a good while to get anywhere near FL360 let alone FL400. This makes a great challenge for the Flight community. Post pics of your results. Correction - My highest now is 38,718 and I also got the "Supersonic" award on the way down. Thank you. June 30, 201312 yr The best I've done was getting to the exosphere in the icon with a hacked flight file. Alex Leung Aerospace Engineering Undergraduate Glider & Private Pilot via Royal Canadian Air Cadets

June 30, 201312 yr I only have time for short flights! :LMAO: So, I haven't made it above 37 800 ft. And that was hard. B) Best regards. Luis Hot, humid Caribbean paradise!
