Crashing after Programming FMC for Landing

Featured Replies

Dear Sir,

I have come across a problem in my FMC I hope someone can help me to solve this problem.

I have been using PMDG 737NGX for last few years and flown more than 400 flight in my FSX. During this period I have experience FSX crashing around 20 times. I used to analyze what is happening, every time this happens when I try to land just 3 or 4 ml to the landing point, the computer gets freezes and after few second the FSX crashes and a message appears “FATAL PROBLEM SHUTTING DOWN”. During this period I checked what I have done this to take place, very time I I have to change the landing RW for the second time I have experience this. When I do the trip again without changing the RW, it works beautifully. The last time this happened yesterday  when I try to land EDDF (When there is no ATC I used PROATC” and the assigned RW was 25R Before Descending, but around FL100 the PROATC changed to 25L by that time I have programmed the FMC and re did the Programming. And the problem took place. I re did this Trip LSGG to EDDF again this time I did not Change the RW but for the First time I programmed the RW 25L and it worked.

Can the Support team or A veteran can help me to solve this, after flying a 10H flight when this happened you can understand the Frustration.

Make sure you have the latest version installed. I might be mixing it up with some other addon, but I seem to remember there being such a problem some time back, but was fixed.

Think  you  confusing it  with the md-11  when entering  data  in the fmc  since  there  was  a few of us  had  ctds when doing  this  what solved it  for  me was  doing the repair option using the md-11 installer

Hi Sunil,

Very frustrating when you have almost completed a long flight and a CTD happens. A few things come to mind:

1. Are you on a 64bit system with at least 4-8gb of memory?

2. What other modules are you running at the same time? eg, REX, EZCA etc

3. Does the same thing happen on very short leg flights? e.g, take off and travel to an airport 30 minutes away. When close, reprogram the FMC to another runway and see if the CTD happens. If not, maybe you have a memory issue as the memory has been leaking for several hours and the reprogramming the FMC is the final straw for you machine. If reprogramming your FMC with another runway always causes the CTD, regardless of time in the air, then you have an issue that needs trouble shooting

4. Contact the PMDG support guys with a ticket. Explain how you can "cause" the CTD every flight. PMDG guys do not respond to emails or usually requests through this forum...Go to their site and register....http://support.precisionmanuals.com/Main/Default.aspx

The support guys will be able to resolve, or at least isolate the matter for you.

Hi Sunil,

Your system looks as though it is suitable for FSX and the 737NGX. You have a lot of add-ons, which could be causing some drain on your memory, remembering that even though you have some 32GB of memory, at best your FSX system will only be utilising about 4GB, and that is with you tweaking the fsx.cfg file. Also, remember to turn off airports and scenery not being used as this sucks away a lot of memory.  There are many threads on this, with some guys who have fantastic knowledge.

A site that PMDG recommend is http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html. This site, after you answer 6 questions, will send you a revised fsx.cfg file to replace yours which is tailored to your system..

There is another site that is excellent, but the forum administrators will not allow his name to be used.

Anyway, I think it would be good if you involved the PMDG guys and then came back here with the solution.
